The 2009 Bully Dog SuperLite Championship crowns a champion
What started out last winter as a brand new class within short course off road racing has turned into an action packed class full of some very capable drivers. During its first year, the class saw 19 different racers competing for a spot on the podium. The last race of the point’s championship has just concluded in Primm, Nevada; a champion was crowned and the fans saw some amazing race action.
From the drop of the green flag it was a fight up front for the lead as two young guns, Ricky James and Chad George checked out away from the rest of the field and then started to dice back and forth for the top spot. That fight soon ended as Chad got crossed up through the rhythm section in the Independent Skateboard truck, the end result was a violent crash that he did walk away from though sore and with a bruised ego. The crash brought out a full course caution. After the caution John Harrah picked up where Chad left off, fighting the SoCal Super Trucks driver Ricky James for the lead. This battle would continue until the checkered flag with Ricky taking the win, Harrah finishing second and young Dawson Kirchner finishing third. The second place finish all but clinched the championship for John Harrah.
Sunday’s race started with mayhem as all the front runners were sent scrambling by John Harrah who had just become the official class champion by simply starting the race. At the drop of the green John lost traction and went off the track in front of the entire field. Dawson Kirchner, Ricky James and Chad Leising all powered through the chaos, those three battled up front for the entire race. Kirchner and Leising swapped the second place position a number of times and finally on the last lap, Chad was able to get a bit of a lead on Dawson and maintain the spot to the end. On top of the podium again was Ricky James, his 5th first place finish in just 6 starts.
While the championship may be over, the big money race is coming up in just a couple of short weeks. There are rumors that some “ringers” are coming into the class for a chance to take home the big money that Bully Dog has put up. One thing is for sure, it’s going to be exciting!
