Lancaster, CALIFORNIA - Rob MacCachren made his official return to the CORR dirt this afternoon beating the top Pro-2 racers in the first qualifying run of the 2007 season. MacCachren beat out SuperCross Icon and CORR Champion-Ricky Johnson along with Carl Renezeder rounding out the top three.
In fourth position, Monster Energy's Jerry Whelchel turned a time that was less than a half of second behind the leaders as he pushed the Monster Pro-2 through the turns here at Antelope Valley.
The Pro-2 had 12 race trucks take to the field including four veteran desert racers transitioning from desert racing to closed course racing. Alan Pflueger, Gary Dircks, Steve Sourapas and Mark Porter all took to the race track in their first ever qualifying attempt. Leading the group of four desert warriors was Gary Dircks who posted the fastest qualifying time of the group. Dircks ran a 58.63 while The Flyin Hawaiian Pflueger ran a 59.07. Steve Sourapas ran his RPS Pro-2 in 59.88 while Mark Porter was last of all qualifiers at 60.27 nearly a full six-seconds behind the pole position leader, Rob MacCachren.
The action is expected to be an incredible battle over the next two rounds of racing as Rob Mac and Ricky Johnson go head-to-head with the best off road racers in the world.
