Everybody loves the Tecate girls
The DP4 World Tour concluded late last night in Ensenada, Baja California, but not after huge stops in two of Mexico’s most passionate off-road racing cities. On Tuesday night over 1000 fans, racers and their teams all packed into the Dune Club in downtown Mexicali to celebrate the official Mexican debut of Dezert People 4. In attendance were several dignitaries from Mexico’s Tourism Board, CODE Off Road Racing, as well as government officials from the surrounding Mexicali / San Felipe districts.
Sponsored by Tecate Beer, FOX Racing Shox and the Dune Club the fiesta was one of a kind as the club filled up to capacity with standing room only by mid-evening. The premier was slated to start at 9:00 p.m.; however the Mexico crowds continued to line up outside the Dune Club until nearly 10:00 p.m. delaying the start of the movie.
Spanish language broadcast of event announcer:
DP4 had a huge turnout at the Dune Club
With the slight delay the fans were entertained by Travis Pastrana’s film – Nortorious 3, as hundreds of cases of icy cold Tecate’s were distributed by the gorgeous Tecate Girls. Mixed in the crowd at the Dune Club were Mexicali regulars, Matt Scaroni and Caleb Gaddis. Of course, both Scaroni and Gaddis live across the border in nearby Heber and El Centro, respectively.
Scaroni races the #27 trophy truck under the watchful eye of SMD Motorsports team owner, Steve Scaroni, himself a well-known off road racing statesman. Matt and his younger brother, David, who was unable to attend this premier because he was studying for college finals, have won multiple off road racing championships with their father. This year marks their inaugural season racing in the elite trophy truck field. Scaroni had much to say when asked by DirtNewz commentator – Brittany Sanchez about his season and bump-drafting with the Desert Assassin’s Kingpin – Cam Steele.
Scaroni interview:
Caleb Gaddis, the 2005 SCORE Racing Champion, and his TWG crew arrived to the Dune Club without his elite prep king, Scotty Prill, for the premier of the film. Driving his Prill-prepped 1-2/1600 car to an incredible championship performance last year, Gaddis stunned the off road racing community in his first competitive season of racing in 2005 with consistent finishes at all the SCORE races. Caleb smiled as he spoke to DirtNewz’ Brittany about the 2006 season.
Caleb Gaddis interview:
As the clock struck 10:00 p.m., the film was launched on the big screens of the Dune Club to the cheers of the fans. Silence fell over the large crowd until the opening scene and the crowd roared its approval. Throughout the evening the oooo’s and ahhh’s were heard throughout the big crowd and by the end of the movie the applause confirmed the reason that both Curtis Guise and Klaus Rasch were smiling. This night was capped with the genuine approval from a very passionate Mexicali racing community.
The DP4 crew had a killer batch of raffle prizes
Shortly after midnight with the Dune Club nearly empty, CODE Off Road Officials hosted the DP4 Staff and DirtNewz to a late night tour of Mexicali, however that’s an entirely different story.
Papa’s and Beer in Ensenada, Baja California was the locale for Wednesday’s night extravaganza as the final night of DP4 exploded on the big screens of a very familiar beer stop for the off road racing community. Klaus commented, “The fans of Mexico are very passionate about off road racing and the Baja premiers are great events. So many people have come out in support of the film, it’s great!”
Papa’s and Beer is already a feisty hangout, but add in hundreds of ravaged off road racing fans, Mexico’s favorite beer – Tecate and the latest off road racing film and you have yourself one big azz fiesta. That’s how it went off late into the night on the shores of the Pacific Ocean in Ensenada, Baja California.
In a fitting manner, the DP4 World Tour concluded at the start line of the famed SCORE Baja 1000 off road race late last night. After nearly a week of movie premiers from around the United States and Mexico the overall consensus was DP4 leads the charts in 2006 released films. Many thanks to DP4 producers Curtis Guise and Klaus Rasch for inviting DirtNewz along on the DP4 World Tour and we look forward to many more world tours in the future.
