Phoenix, Arizona - (January 1, 2006)
Only a few years ago, Jesse Jones was romping his Class 8 truck to quiet wins in the Nevada desert flying beneath the radar of the off road nation’s top trophy truck drivers. Shortly thereafter, Jones teamed with Scott Steinberger joining the ranks of the elite field.
Fast forward to December 2005 and the final race of the BITD season.
Jesse Jones wins the 2005 Best In The Desert Trick Truck Championship with solid performance finishing second in a hotly contested race that was marred by a “racing incident,” which fortunately, two racers were injured but ultimately survived.
Blasting through the desert at top speeds is nothing new for the Phoenix, Arizona resident. Jones shares his off road racing passion with his friends and family and capturing his first trick truck season championship is very satisfying.
The 2005 season was not without difficultly as Jones battled with the best in the elite field of the nation’s best off road racers. Twenty-one different trick truck teams raced in BITD this season including NASCAR team owner and Baja 500 Winner – Robby Gordon who put his Chevy Red Bull #83 truck in the dirt at the first race of the season at Parker, Arizona.
Finishing second to Parker 425 winner-Kyle Taylor was the step in the right direction for Jones who this season teamed with PCI Racing for the last two seasons. Beginning the season with a solid performance was paramount for Jones. He continued performing throughout the season consistently placing and finishing in all five races. Capping the season with two second place finishes, two third place finishes and taking sixth at the famed BITD Vegas to Reno was enough to catapult Jones to the top spot.
The icing on the cake was that Jones delivered Toyo Tires their first ever Trick Truck off road championship. In fact, the 2005 off road racing season was the first season for the newcomer, Toyo Tires, to the exquisite off road tire wars and they were victorious on the #76 Trick Truck of Jesse Jones.
Jones, also part of the legendary FABTECH Motorsports stable of champion drivers, joined Greg Foutz and Craig Turner as desert champions who claimed season honors in 2005.
Jones Motorsports announced plans to campaign for the 2006 SCORE International Trophy Truck Championship in the coming year.
