The carnage continues here
at Cedar City's big rock pile. Reports of broken parts
and bruised egos continue to roll in here at Three Peaks
Rec Area. Today's competition is the first time UROC has
held a Pro-National event in a natural rock terrain since
mid-last year. Although some of these teams do compete
in WE Rock and PRO Rock many of these teams are seeing
true Mother Earth for the first time all season long.
UROC Pro-National Champ
Shannon Campbell defied all odds in his last obstacle
of the day as the black single-seat beauty rolled hard
off the top of Obstacle # 6. That didn't deter the reigning
champion as he knocked the cobwebs out of his brain and
shifted the Campbell Enterprises rock rig into gear for
the second attempt at the bonus line. Campbell charged
to the top without any issue listening to Big Mike - his
spotter, all the way up scoring the maximum points he
could on the obstacle.
We are awaiting scores
from UROC as the competition is nearly over here in Cedar
City. Although the festivities are about to kick off big
at the D & P Performance shop where word has it good
trouble is brewing. We'll bring you the scores as soon
as we have them in hand.
4:15 p.m. Update
Rage 4th running on 3-cylinders
after Lance Clifford gives us the interview explaining
what happened. Listen to the audio for the interview in
the meantime well give you the short version.
Rage 4th suffers a broken
rear shock and shock mount after rolling off the top of
Obstacle #6. During the roll the motor suffered a broken
valve cover and a broken injector. FAT Performance hooked
them up and provided them with the list of parts they
need from the Tink Napa Auto Part store after the competition
is complete, in the meantime they are running on only
3-cylinders.
Don "The Maverick"
Robbins rolled BIG off the top of Obstacle #6 after the
front winch line broke forcing the front end to lift abruptly
and springing the Twisted Customs rig off the rock and
over twice before coming to a stop. The Maverick simply
adjusted his helmet and drove back to the top before running
out of time.
Tracy Jordan plays out
his strategy to perfection today to take the unofficial
points lead at 4:00 p.m. However, Shannon Campbell has
yet to run Obstacle # 6 and the famed bonus climb.
Rock Runner's Brian Errea
suffered a devestating rollover that broke the left front
shock and demolished the driver's side front quarter panel.
They also suffered a broken drive shaft as well as various
other unusable components here on the natural rocks of
Cedar City.
3:15 p.m. Update
Rage 4th back in action!
It's not pretty, but they just started the obstacle #4
and they are charging.
UROC Supercrawl Champion
FABTECH's Tracy Jordan charged up the bonus line on Obstacle
#6 schooling the field of teams all watching him in action.
Jordan continues to demonstrate why he is the UROC Supercrawl
Champion
Jason Scherer and Lance
Clifford are working fast to repair the Nelson and Nelson
built single seat rock rig, "Tiny" after suffering
a big nasty roll on Obstacle 6 breaking apart a shock
and bending the shock hoop. With only three obstacles
being run today, time is of the essence as they have to
get back into the action or will be forced to take big
penalty points perhaps pushing them to the back of the
field.
This Cedar City event is
so critical for any team to make a run at the points championship.
With UROC cancelling the Portland, Indiana event it makes
this event even that much more important.
Larry Trim continues to
have problems as he rolled on Obstacle #4 putting the
TrailReady single-seat buggy into a place it shouldn't
have been. However, the TrailReady rock rig has been very
well fabricated and continues to hold up to the test of
these Cedar City rocks.
Dean Bulloch rolled on
Obstacle #3 as the gorgeous yellow Suzuki Samurai was
wheeling hard in search of a win this weekend. On Track
Krawler Team is hosting a huge barbeque for sponsors,
media, family and friends tonight at D&P Performance.
Watch for that photo gallery tomorrow morning!
Welcome to the big rocks. The action has kicked off here at Three Peaks Recreation Area outside Cedar City, Utah as 39 of the of the nation's professional rockcrawling teams have begun competition in Round 2 of the UROC Pro-National Pacific Division Series. Unlike the buzz that was abound at the season-opener only two weeks ago, many teams have come to the realization that the big rocks of Cedar City are going to be a difficult challenge. Already, teams have seen the likes of Jason Paule and Jeff Downs suffer at the hands of the rocks.
Paule and his Super Spotter - Travis Wadeson timed out on the first run of the weekend, which puts them in the back of the pack even though the started on what has been regarded as the toughest obstacle on the course, obstacle # 6, a series of long vertical climbs that includes a massive wall estimated to be about 70 something degrees in inclination.
TrailReady's Larry Trim succumbed to obstacle #6 as he charged his single-seat rock buggy hard, but came up short.
