Rick Huseman Fastest Time Post Qualifying Interview
By DirtNewz.com Staff
Chula Vista, California (May 19, 2006)
A new season has
begun. Wow, that’s about all we can say after wide
open qualifying action that was as dramatic as racing
can be. Nearly 3 hours of qualifying led to disqualified
laps, incredible speeds, unbelievable lap times, multiple
lap leaders all within seconds and some of the most epic
racing action CORR has to offer. All under the beautiful
sunny skies of San Diego, California.
The Pro-Lites went off the line first in
groups of four led by Skyjacker’s Kyle LeDuc in
the #99 Ford truck. LeDuc wasted no time in setting the
fastest lap time that ended up lasting until Steve Frederico
put the PFChang sponsored-Pro Lite into the battle of
the Pro-Lites. Frederico ended up in the top spot after
running a 101.20 seconds.
Although the drama was at full tilt when
Arizonian – Robert Naughton, driving his beautiful
yellow Pro-Lite set a lightening fast time off 100.86,
but was only a short time later was disallowed because
it was ruled by CORR track officials that Naughton failed
to yield to the yellow flag in the final turn. Another
race truck was stopped just short of the start/finish
line dead in the water when Naughton flew by setting his
fast lap time. Only moments later CORR announced that
Naughton’s top lap had been disallowed. A tough
break for Naughton driving on Maxxis Tires here on the
clay track of Chula Vista.
Driving the fabulously prepped-Potawatomi
sponsored Pro-Lite was Jeff Kincaid who blazed several
fast laps landing in third position off the line in tomorrow’s
round one of the 2006 CORR Lucas Oil Pro Series event.
A host of new Pro-Lite drivers took to the
field that included Casey Currie, John Marking, Mike Voyles,
Paul Morris, Robert Naughton as well as a host of other
Pro-Lites are all vying for a top 20 qualifying spot.
Over 30 Pro-Lite trucks were entered, in fact, 34 officially
were registered, but only 29 have arrived to face off
here in Chula Vista.
Pro-2
In anticipation of the new year and a fast—paced
season, reigning Pro-2 Champ – Carl Renezeder raced
his newly-built Pro-2 truck featuring Nissan power to
the top spot in the Pro-2 field that turned out to be
a great show for the fans here at Chula Vista.
In the first session, Josh Baldwin ran hard
and captivated the audience by scoring a 58.22 second
lap that stood the test of many until his brother-in-law,
Carl Renezeder arrived on the scene and beat him. First
Baldwin blasted around the track setting the fast time
announced as 58.22 and then Renezeder took his turn at
it and CORR announced a faster time of 58.22, although
no one knew what was up until it was deciphered moments
later. Renezeder’s winning time was 58.225 over
Josh Baldwin’s time of 58.226, a mere thousand of
one second. Only at CORR!
Jerry Welchel was in action here in Chula
Vista driving the Monster Energy Drink sponsored – Pro-2 and he set some fast lap times landing him in an
unofficial third spot behind Scott Douglas in the Amsoil
Pro-2.
Pro-4
In anticipation of the new year and a very
fast—paced season FABTECH’s Rick Huseman slammed
everyone by putting his newly-built Pro-4 in the number
one qualifying position after a great run here at the
raceway. The FABTECH Pro-4 features a unique rear suspension
and it seemed to be working very well under Chula Vista
conditions. Adrian Cenni, New York City, New York, arrived
here in his bright orange Atrium sponsored Pro-4 and had
a bit of a slow performance in his triumphant return to
CORR racing. Huseman set the pace after posting a 56.86
time besting everyone else by nearly a second. Following
him and off the pace slightly was Johnny Greaves who started
out in thick heavy mud in the first lap of his three lap
qualifying effort. Skyjacker’s Curt LeDuc ran solid
all thoughout the qualifier to put the Skyjacker FORD
in the number four spot for tomorrow’s main event.
Full official qualifying results will be
posted as soon as we have them from CORR. Check out the
extensive photo gallery here at DirtNewz and stay tuned
for more action tomorrow.
CORR Qualifying at Lucas Oil Season Opener
– Chula Vista
By DirtNewz.com Staff
Chula Vista, California (May 19, 2006)
The action started early here at the Chula Vista International Raceway under very sunny skies first thing this morning. By 6:00 a.m. teams were busy prepping cars and the CORR staff continued to work feverishously in production for the CORR season-opener of wild off road racing.
DirtNewz perused the pits and the race compound since early this morning as the caffeine kicked in from the hot coffee being brewed at each pit. We found the Bolt On Motorsports Team racing the Cenni Pro-4 this morning as they unloaded the sparkling truck from the back of a U-haul and encountered a few issues getting the big beast from the enclosed rental truck. The BFG’s were wedged in tight and the crew had to mash the pedal a bit to get the truck unstuck from the Uhaul. Just another day at the office here at CORR.
Drivers lined up very early at driver registration and by 9:00 a.m. the line stretch over 150 feet long and then the announcement of the cancelled driver’s meeting that was suppose to go off at 9:00 a.m. That has been pushed back to 2:00 p.m., which means that will occur right before the qualifying rounds are set to begin.
CORR Officials announced Pro-4’s and Pro-2’s could line up for practice at 10:00 a.m. and all other classes wait at least an hour before lining up with instructions to be given on the course entrance.
In one of the first practice runs of the weekend Rhonda Konitzer put the Baldwin Motorsports truck up and over during her first run. That’s just the beginning of the action here at CORR Racing. We’ll give you a full report of the latest actions from Chula Vista later this afternoon.
