Let’s Get Ready To Rumble! CORR Lucas Oil Pro Series Opens in San Diego

By DirtNewz.com Staff
Chula Vista, California (May 16, 2006)

Sunny skies. California girls. Championship Off Road Racing. What more could you ask for? The 2006 CORR Lucas Oil Pro Series season opener begins with qualifying action on Friday afternoon after two-hours of the season’s first official practice session.

CORR Chamionship Off Road Racing

On Saturday, the season opener will host terrific race action beginning at 1:00 p.m. with the 2006 CORR Opening Ceremonies. That will be followed by a full schedule of racing that includes various buggy and truck classes.

At 3:25 p.m., the featured races will kick off captivating a lively audience leading up to the main event, squaring off the biggest and baddest off road trucks in the field, the CORR Pro-4 trucks.

The action is sure to be wide-open. The field of racers has grown tremendously since last season when CORR took to the dirt of Southern California. A host of professional off road desert racers have purchased, or had CORR race trucks built, after the exciting action at last fall’s CORR races in Southern California.

In fact, DirtNewz caught up with CORR Pro-4 Champion Johnny Greaves at his DePere, Wisconsin shop only a month ago while he was finishing up a duo of CORR Pro-Lite trucks for Pechanga Resort & Casino sponsored - Mike Voyles and Viejas Casino/FOX Racing Shox sponsored –John Marking.

Johnny and Curt Greaves were hard at work building trucks during the entire off season while late orders rolled in as the CORR fever hit the off road desert racing world. Coyne Motorsports will field several trucks in the CORR Lucas Oil Pro Series this year, as the nation’s top racers all position themselves for a run at a CORR Championship season.

Several CORR veterans, who also race in the desert, have introduced new CORR trucks this season. The gentleman, Carl Renezeder, is poised to introduce a brand new truck after capturing the Pro-2 Championship in his old sled only last season and finishing a scant 19 points behind crowned champion, Johnny Greaves.

Scott Douglas also introduces a new hot rod this season, hoping to capitalize on his return to the elite CORR Pro-4 field. And he’ll be flying around the dirt in his 2005 Pro-2 truck.

A huge field of CORR Pro-Lites will take to the Chula Vista dirt and although some prognosticators have estimated a field of nearly 30 Pro Lites, rumor has it qualifying heats could see 20 per heat pushing that number to nearly 40 CORR Pro Lites. Let’s just say that anything could happen in the Pro Lite field! The action is sure to be off-the-hook.

So you may scratch your head and think to yourself, “Man, California is sure a long ways from Michigan or Wisconsin or Illinois. How am I gonna stay tuned in?”
