Cadiente Injured in Pre-Run Crash
Ensenada, Baja California (March 9, 2007)
SCORE Rookie of the Year, Garron Cadiente, suffered minor injuries in a prerun crash while he was testing the #38 Geiser-built trophy truck late Friday afternoon.
Caidente led his team through the contingency and technical inspection process Friday morning in downtown Ensenada. As expected massive crowds came out to see their favorite off road race teams including the #38 and #39 G&R Racing race trucks.
With a couple hours of sunlight left, Cadiente buckled up in his #38 Trophy Truck and headed out of downtown Ensenada traveling up towards the start line on Avenida Ruiz. The #38 truck had a brand new motor dropped in the truck only days before this race and Cadiente told DIRTnewz he wanted to put a couple miles on the truck before the race.
It was a few hours later when DIRTnewz stopped by the G&R Racing headquarters across from the Villa Marina Hotel and saw the results of Cadiente's prerun crash with a dump truck.
Cadiente told us he was cruising on the race course and came over a rise and saw the dump truck traveling backwards on the race course and directly in front of him. He immediately changed the direction of the #38 truck, but he collided with the slow moving dump truck. The dump truck was traveling backwards on the race course.
The damage we saw to the race truck was extensive and included an exploded steering ram and the drivers side rear shock package demolished from the impact with the dump truck. The fuel cell was crunched and several tubes along the drivers side compartment were replaced by the Geiser Bros. led crew.
While the race team worked repairing the truck, Cadiente evaluated a battered a bruised left shoulder, but said he'd be ready to race on race day.
