13:50 - Car
307 - Chicherit opens the gap
The first 6 cars have just completed 190 km of the day’s special and Frenchman Guerlain Chicherit (BMW) still boasts the best provisional time, but now has a lead of 2’19 over Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah (VW) and 3’29 over Mark Miller (VW). Frenchman Stéphane Peterhansel (BMW) is 4’53 behind his team-mate and countryman Chicherit. Now that the first 15 cars have completed 148 km of the day’s special, Frenchman Guerlain Chicherit (BMW) once again has the best provisional time, 12" ahead of his team-mate Stéphane Peterhansel (BMW) and 1’28 in front of Nasser Al-Attiyah (VW). 13:03 - Car
303 - Sainz comes unstuck...
Although he was driving at a normal pace, the Race-Touareg belonging to the leader of the general standings, Spaniard Carlos Sainz (VW) bears the marks of a big impact on the roof. The first 10 bikes have finished the 11th stage and Dutchman Frans Verhoeven (BMW) has won, picking up his 3rd stage victory on the Dakar, but more importantly the first for the Munich-based constructor on its return this year. It is a fine comeback for Verhoeven who was close to withdrawing after the 2nd special stage. In the end, the Dutchman beat American Jonah Street (KTM) by 3” and Norwegian Pal Anders Ullevalseter (KTM) by 2’26. As for Spaniard Marc Coma (KTM), he lost 5’08 over this 11th special.

As a result, his team-mate, Japan’s Jun Mitsuhashi, who took over command in the general production standings yesterday following the Frenchman’s mishaps, now boasts a lead of 6.07:50 over the new 2nd placed driver, Spaniard Xavier Foj (Toyota).

Yesterday’s special winner and therefore the first to start this morning, Spaniard Marc Coma (KTM) has made a navigational error after just 13 km of the day’s special stage. Heading straight on into the mountains instead of taking the track to the right, the Spanish rider realised he had made a mistake 3 km later when he checked at the hidden Way Point after 26.45 km. Aware that he had just missed out a little more than 10 km of the special, the title holder made an about turn and headed back to the 13-km point, to take the right direction this time…

STAGE 11: SANTIAGO – SAN JUAN
434 km are on the menu for the 11th stage of this 32nd Dakar during which the competitors will leave Chile and return to Argentina, where the 220-km timed section will take place. They will cross the border at an altitude of 3500 m, ever so slightly higher than the point at which starter’s orders for the special will be given. The competitors will have to tackle almost 100 km of narrow and winding tracks at an altitude of almost 2000 m before descending to the Argentine plains for the second half of the route. To get there, the riders and drivers must brave a descent measuring almost 20 km, which will be one of the major difficulties of the day for the cars and trucks, where they will have to avoid wear and tear on their brakes.
