Day 5 - Riders Made it to San Ignacio, Holding up at Rice & Beans Preparing for 4:30am Wake Up Call

Rise and Shine Guerrero Negro. Riders loading up and heading out for Day 5 of Rip to the Tip riding. After OX's crash yesterday he's going to take the day off from riding as he's hurting pretty bad so he will be out of the running for a FULL PULL award at the end of the trip. He's doing okay but just needs to recoop.

Just got word that Cameron Steele got a flat tire on the trail only a few miles into today's ride. Everyone is all good and heading south toward San Ignacio where we will stay tonight.

This is the list of riders that are out of the running for a FULL PULL:

1. Larry Job - blown transmission had to ride in chase truck to get to spare bike (Day 2)
2. Brian Busby - heat stroke, exhaustion, crashed hard and took 1/2 day off riding (Day 3)
3. Henk Weissner - crashed hard and headed back to highway after a few miles on day 4. Still riding but took 1/2 day off (Day 4)
4. Larry Badgewell - had to head home for son's BMX race (Day 4)
5. Moss - had to go back to work
6. Ryan Divel - hurt his hands while riding and took 1/2 day off (Day 4)
7. Mike Ewy - crashed hard and is heading back to California. All AOK but knocked him out. (Day 4)
7. Jeff Kargola "OX" - got taken out by another rider and is taking 1/2 off today (Day 5)

At the start of Day 5 we still have 20 riders in the running to take a FULL PULL award...be sure to vote on how many riders you think will be taken out of the running today.

We got a flat coming into Guerrero Negro the back way and hit a nail field....we are at the local Llanteria "Tire Shop" getting it patched and ready to go.

Cameron and the crew are 1/2 way to the first fuel stop near Vizcaino, reporting all good with the pack of 25 riders on the trail today.

We are faintly hearing rumblings of Chase 1 reporting on the radio that they think they saw Rob Mac down here in the deserts of Baja. We will confirm with the riders on the trail today who are out there looking for any Rob Mac sightings... stay tuned.

This morning was a tough one for the riders here on the 2010 Rip to the Tip, a few riders had to be forced out of bed and back on their bikes. Just wait until tomorrow morning as the projected wake up time is 4am...going to be a long tough rest of the trip as we hit the last few days of RIP riding.

The sweep crew messing with Steele over the radio as Brian Beaman stops with a flat. Sweep telling Steele that they are stopping for beers with 200 miles of riding to go, when they are actually stopping for a Beaman flat tire.

Here at Punta Abreojos at Chelo's Bar and Restaurant where the RIP riders are taking a break, getting hydrated and having some tacos.

Riders reporting 7-8 flat tires in the last 40 miles....the last 22 miles were fast, wide open 5th gear pinned where riders were flying at speeds from 90-105 miles per hour. Two guys went down hard, one being Bill Hollenbeck, Troy Harper, Cameron Steele.

Bobby Pecoy is also coping to taking a pretty gnarly tumble as is Ryan Divel. Divel say's he nurfed Cameron Steele and flew right over the handle bars and into the surf.

It looks like Chuck Cheek is calling it a day today. After a rough day yesterday, a slow day today he's going to load his bike in a local truck from here at Abreojos and get a ride to the chase truck waiting on the highway. Cheek is okay but needs a break from riding and will be back at it tomorrow

Riders have made it to Rice & Beans in San Ignacio & all is good to go. Another tough day recorded in the books and more riders dropping out. OX wasn't able to get back on the bike today as the chase trucks didn't meet riders until the end of the day. Riders got fuel from local gas stations, ate lunch at Chelo's in Abreojos and headed south to Abreojos. Chuck Cheek got off his bike in Abreojos and got a ride from a local. He loaded up his bike and got a ride to the chase trucks out on the highway. We got word that Chuck crashed pretty hard today and it looks like he is going to be heading home tomorrow in the plane with Troy Getty. Getty flew back down here today to drop off RIP rider Manny Orneleas and will be flying home tomorrow with hurt riders, Mike Ewy & Chuck Cheek. It looks like Chuck Cheek, also known as Buttercup, was the only rider disqualified from the Full Pull today. "I underestimated this place (Baja) bad, I've rode in Glamis and Ocotillo and I thought I was ready for this but I'm getting my a$$ kicked!!!"

Well everyone is calling it a night here at the 2010 Rip to the Tip stop which will conclude Day 5 of the ride. We're here at Rice & Beans in San Ignacio and will head over 200 miles to San Carlos tomorrow.
