Day 6 - Early Morning Wake Up for the Longest Day of Riding for the Rip Brothers
CLICK HERE FOR TO VIEW LIVE UPDATES DAILY!!
Good Morning Rip Riders Fans!
The time change has put a hamper into the entourage as the majority of the Rip Riders were still working on motorcycle maintenance at 11:00 pm, which is midnight here south of the 28th Parallel.
WAKEUP call this morning was 4:30 AM as PAB himself took the lead and personally knocked on every door in the Rice N Beans hotel. By the time Rip Riders ate breakfast prepared by Ricardo and got out of the hotel rooms with gear loaded the time was 6:30 AM local time.
Today is the LONGEST day of the 2010 Rip at 275-miles as Rip Riders will snake from San Ignacio through the Baja countryside and to the Pacific Coast fishing villages including El Datil and more.
Lunch is being served by John Beck, the father of Rip Rider - Paramedic (LA City Fire Dept) at Scorpion Bay where the Beck family has a home on the famed Baja surf beach.
The Rip Riders are expected to arrive to Scorpion Bay, also known as San Juanico, around noontime - 4 hours from the time of this updated.
Rip Riders are very tired but the cream is rising to the top and that includes FOX Racing Shox Vice President John Marking and DAKAR Racing Veteran, Turbo Tom Geviss, who were all smiles this morning raring to head into the desert. Marking said, "This has been a cakewalk so far and today we finally get to ride some real miles. "
Today marks a special event for one of the Rip Chasers who will visit the tragic crash site of a family member from several years ago when his sister died in a traffic accident outside of San Ignacio.
Rip Founder Cameron Steele set up a beautiful arrangement of flowers that Ricardo / owner of Rice N Beans put together and Evan and the chasers will stop and place flowers near the location of the tragic accident. This 2010 Rip trip is Evan's first time returning to the Baja Peninsula since the accident.
7:24
One of the morning updates is the MEATBALL-Troy Harper pulled the pin on his Full Pull and trailered up his motorcycle for the ride south of San Ignacio in the chase truck.
Last night as the margarita's flowed, Rip Chaser, Casey Hart celebrated his 28th birthday and the singing of Happy Birthday echoed across the Baja desert most of the night.
Rip Riders Chuck Cheek and Mike Ewy, who both pulled the pin over the past two days, flew out with Baja Search and Rescue Founder and pilot, Troy Getty. The two Rip Riders will squeeze into a 4-seat Wheeler for the ride back to the United States.
7:27
The number of Rip Riders that have dropped from the FULL PULL is up to 9 riders of the 30 Rip Riders who started this adventure.
The key is how many will make it through today and then onto the final two days of the Rip Adventure?

Riders are nearing El Datil, approximately 1/8 of the ride today, and no reports of any problems.
7:25
We have had limited contact with the Rip to the Tip 2010 riders today as they ride along the beaches of Baja, from the mission in San Ignacio to Scorpion Bay (properly known as San Juanico). The DIRTnewz satellite truck drove on the same course/track today as the bikes so we've been behind the bikes and 'sweeping' today in case any stragglers are behind.
We didn't come along any riders for the first half of the morning and had a flawless day.
The DIRTnewz satellite truck arrived at Campo Beck, hosted by Rip rider Jesse Beck and his father Jon. The Beck family started building their family home along the baja coastline in San Juanico, better known to surf rat's as Scorpion Bay, over 20 years ago and have it perfected. The beautiful Jon Beck designed home sits along the ridge looking down on Scorpion Bay, only a short walk to the pure white sand beaches.
Rip riders arrived about 2 hours after the chase & media crews with stories billowing out upon arrival. Chris "Pup" Dornsife slowed to a stop on the trail and couldn't get his bike running again. Mechanics have assessed the problem and are diagnosing it with a broken crank but will confirm upon arrival at the hotel tonight in San Carlos.
Cameron Steele organized the retrieval and split the group into teams of three. Each team pushed the bike for about 100 yards and then relayed it to the next team, they then walked back and rode their bikes to the front of the line and waited for their next turn to push. The entire group of 28 riders on the trail today pushed the bike out to the chase truck for 5 miles.
Riders came into the Beck compound exhausted, hungry and ready for a break. Both Jon and son Jesse Beck hosted the entire crew to a lunch, break and gorgeous views of the well known surf spot of Scorpion Bay.
After less than an hour at the lunch spot Steele had the riders loading up as they still had over 100 miles of dirt to finish, guaranteed to finish at San Carlos in the dark.
The DIRTnewz media crew is in route to San Carlos and will be there waiting for the Rip Riders to arrive and get the full scoop on the second half of the day.

Great coverage Tim and Co! I didn't realize how fortunate we were going to be to have your updates!! Thank you so much! Great job! It's the next best thing to being there! See you in Cabo!
7:47
Wow Wendy, Henk didn't tell us he already had a cracked rib!! He was hurting a bit today so headed out to the lunch spot early to hang out at Scorpion Bay with the crew. Don't worry, he was with Scrambler and Divel and only missed about 15 miles of DIRT and a few hours of pushing the broken bike of Pup to hang out on the beach and relax. They then went back out with the crew to finish up today's of riding.

Thanks for the continuing updates, photos and videos. The kids loved seeing their daddy get pranked. Tell Brian that it is his job to explain to the penguin why he was waving at the camera with only one finger. Have fun and can't wait to see everyone in Cabo!

OG Rip rider Moss checking in. I was so bummed to ride off to home with Larry on day 4. I have been following the rest of my RIP Brothers as they go down the peninsula. Great job on the updates, I love to hear how they are going.
9:08
Glad to hear you made it home AOK Moss....we are almost to San Carlos and we'll give you guys all the rest of the updates from the second 1/2 of the day.
It looks like the first of the riders are pulling in to San Carlos now...
Riders are in good spirits. More stories to come from them as everyone heads to the showers and then to dinner.

[Comment From JayO ]
Congratulations to all so far!!! Riders can probably smell the Cabo beaches in the air by now.....Thanks Dirtnewz for the updates-keep it up. Thanks to the pit crew for doing such an awesome job too! Hey what's up with Barb-wire Bob? Haven't heard much from him since the first day or two? Did he find more barbwire? Is the DIRTY530 in the house???
9:13
Barb-wire Bob is all good and ready to hit the beaches of Cabo, no more barb wire found yet but there's still a few days of riding to go...
Manny Orneleas, Dirty Dirty 530, arrived yesterday via Baja Search and Rescue's Troy Getty, and had problems early on in the day. Manny made it to the lunch stop and instead of overlooking his bike before lunch he was quick to assume that his bike was 100% okay....
As the crew was loading up someone noticed Manny had a flat tire. He went to change it but then noticed that the rim lock was broken setting the entire crew of riders back 45 minutes.
