Day 7 - San Carlos to Todos Santos

CLICK HERE FOR TO VIEW LIVE UPDATES DAILY!!

Rip riders are just taking off for the day from San Carlos. After a good night of rest all riders have hit the dirt just outside of San Carlos on their 206 mile journey for day #7 of the 2010 Rip to the Tip. The DIRTnewz media crew will catch up to them in Santa Rita as we must take the highway to the old SCORE Baja 1000 race course.

All riders except Meatball, also known as Troy Harper, geared up and started their day on their bikes. Harper is having problems with his bike and it doesn't look like he will be doing any more miles in the dirt.
8:31
The Rip Riders are tired,, exhausted and looking forward for a break once they reach Cabo San Lucas. Today's ride will take them over 47 miles of consistent woops followed by the infamous Santa Rita silt beds where riders will face difficult conditions that have plagued SCORE Baja 1000 off road racers for decades.

Baja silt is like fine light brown baby powder that finds its way into every crevice of your body, face and riding gear.

Las Vegas veteran Baja 1000 racer, Larry Job smiled and commented, "I know every way around the Santa Rita silt beds and I'm looking forward to taking my line from the 2007 race. Far left against the fence will take you through the silt beds, but those that don't know may bury themselves into the deep silt beds of the Baja desert.
8:40
Rip Riders were scheduled to take off from the hotel at 7:30 but maintenance delays and tired riders could not get it together and they left the hotel right around 9:00 am local time.

15 minutes later they topped off fuel at the intersection of the San Carlos Highway and the Baja 1000 race course and the beginning of 47-miles of brutal sand whoops
8:52
The 3-person Rip Media crew is enroute to the Santa Rita and we'll have updates after the punishment of the Baja sand whoops....
9:54
Just heard on the radio that Brian Busby, also known as Scrambler, crashed hard once again and the chase truck already picked he and his bike up. He is okay, and joking around on the radio but doesn't look like he will ride any more miles to Cabo.

When we meet up with him in Santa Rita we will get the full story and keep you updated.

I am putting my money on Baja Search & Rescue brotha Chris DA_PUP Dornsife for the rookie full pull!
10:06
BajaSAR - it looks like you didn't read yesterday's updates or watch the latest videos. Yesterday's Rip leg saw PUP Dornsife blow his motor. He's out of the Full Pull. Rip brother OX let Pup hop on his spare bike to ride the rest of the way to Cabo for both today and tomorrow but Dornsife is out of the chances for a Full Pull
10:07
Watch the latest videos uploaded last night to see Rip brothers hike Pup's bike out of the trail 5 miles...footage from Steele's trail cam.

[Comment From capt. mike ]
glad to see Dirty and Brit back at the reporting helm. missed the regualr reports yesterday.
10:09
Sorry we didn't have a ton of updates yesterday Capt Mike...we had a ton of miles in the dirt ourselves and can't run with the satellite up :)
10:09
[Comment From Papa Beaman ]
Wonder if they can hold their breath for 47 miles today...

11:01
Pictured below is Brian Busby, aka Scrambler, who crashed at the 2009 Bradford Corner as he took out some cactus. However, we had a chance to catch up to Scrambler at Mexico Hwy 1 KM 128 where he was sipping on an icy cold - Media Crew provided TECATE Cerveza and detailed his latest crash, "I was hauling ass and the trail turned slightly to the right and I missed it, I pulled a wheelie as I headed into the open cactus filled desert and smacked a few cactus and cartwheeled to a big crash. I'm fine, but I won't be riding anymore today," commented the smiling Brian Busby
11:03
The Desert Assassin's War Wagon is set up on the trail and will fill the bikes or perhaps they may make the run up to KM 128 where the rest of the chase and media crew are setup with the Satellite truck...by the way the Satellite truck is powered by TECATE Cerveza...

More updates in the next coming hours..and video from this morning is going up via Satellite as we bring this update to you.

Hey there, John Marking! Rip to the Tip is awesome. You are doing great - keep on kicking butt! All of us at FOX cheering you on. Oh, wait a minute - I just noticed a dirtnewz photo of you with your helmet off (dark outside, and you are looking to your left): hey, you are looking a bit tired...I wonder WHY :). Go get 'em, John!
11:12
[Comment From Maree ]
Is Larry riding a Honda? LOL
11:12
Yes, Larry's bike blew a tranny on day 2 and he's on someone else's spare bike
11:12
[Comment From BajaSAR ]
What? why does it matter if you use a different bike as long as you do the FULL PULL Miles??? I did see the update but figured with guys dropping, someone had a bike for DA_PUP!
11:17
In order to get a Full Pull award at the end of the ride riders must ride every mile on the trail. All the riders who have been disqualified have either loaded their bikes up on a truck or trailer (even for a few miles) or rode on the highway instead of the DIRT (slabbing it in). If you don't ride the entire track/course that the Rip Riders are doing then you don't get a Full Pull award.

Yes, Pup is on another bike today but his bike was trailered up for the second half of yesterday's ride and he rode in the chase truck to San Carlos which took him out of the running for a Full Pull.

Hope that clarified it a little.

[Comment From Papa Beaman ]
It musta been a spectacular crash, he looks too happy....

Busby here at the DIRTnewz media truck reporting that Steele and Pup leading the pack today at speeds up to 75 miles per hour in the first 10 miles.

After only 5 miles Steele stopped the group and pulled out the sat phone because he left all his gear back at the hotel. The Rip chase crew took care of it and got it for him but it just goes to show you how long the nights are and how fast the guys are heading out and back in the dirt in the morning.
11:37
Riders are currently getting fuel from the chase trucks at Santa Rita, all is good and they will be heading south shortly
12:08
[Comment From BajaSAR ]

12:10

Riders have just been refueled here at Punto Canejo and are headed south on the beach to the small fishing village of Albanez and then slab it in to Todos Santos.

Everyone is rehydrated, fueled and ready to go.

We can see the fatigue starting to kick in as riders get closer to Cabo.

Is Brian okay...he looks like he's about to die in the picture you just uploaded. Not that I care...
3:37
Brian is ok and got back on the bike, riders are just getting drained and whooped out after 1200 miles in the dirt...
3:40
We will give you more updates as we get them as we are heading south to Todos Santos....stay tuned, WHERE THERE'S DIRT, THERE'S NEWZ!!!!!!!
6:59
The 2010 Rip to the Tip is nearing the end as all Rip Riders have arrived before dark to Todos Santos at Carlito's Place. The cold cerveza is already served and the special tacos are being served by Carlito and his wife as the Rip Riders are enjoying the best of the Baja Peninsula.
7:04
With only 100-miles left in the 2010 Rip to the Tip, epic fun has been had by all and everyone except Scrambler made it through the brutal 47-miles of sand whoops and the infamous Santa Rita silt beds.

Led by the Desert Assassins Kingpin, Cameron Steele, the riders will feast at Carlitos and head to the Todos Santos Mansion where the Rip Family will enjoy the night on the bluffs above the Todos Santos beaches.
7:07
The Rip Riders competed on the beach and the event had the two top dogs, Lobster and Jesse, in the final group on the beach.

As they went head to head, Jesse outperformed Lobster in the final heat taking the win and earning the 4 Yokohama tires for the victory.

7:33
In 30 minutes the Rip Riders are headed to the Todos Santos Mansion where we are staying for the night. Epic times in store for tonight's activities.
9:53
We are here at the Rip Mansion as Rip riders don't want to leave this beautiful place this morning. The place that Cameron reserved is unbelievable with three infinity pools surrounding the grounds, gorgeous rooms and views that are unexplainable right along the coast of the baja peninsula.
