Rick Deremo wins XRRA season opener in new IFS racer
MOAB, Utah - The XRRA season opener in Moab, Utah gave the spectators something new to check out, two IFS (Independent Front Suspension) rock racers. One of which was piloted by Rick Deremo of Xtreme Motorsports.
The courses were fast with boulders, big burms, sweeping corners, jumps and rain. To make it even more interesting, the teams had to make two laps per course. Rick was teamed to race against Brad Lovell, which made for some good side by side action.
When the four courses were completed, Rick was leading the race and had 30 seconds on Brad going into the two course shoot-out. Rick and his runner (spotter) Rick Gersch, laid out their game plan for the last two courses and stuck to it taking the win with a 62 second lead over second place Lovell. Third place was captured by Levi Shirley, driving Rick Deremo's racer from last season..
Spectators got a glimps of history in the making when Deremo put the IFS racer on the podium. It is the first time an independent front suspension car has won a major rock event.
We asked Rick how he thought the car would perform at the other event sites, he responded, "I think the car will work good, but it's going to take time to learn to drive the IFS way."
