Monster Energy-Backed CORR Competitors Ramp Up For Rounds 3 & 4 Of The Series This Weekend In LA
Monster-backed Johnny Greaves & Jerry Whelchel, who both won their classes at the CORR opener, will be joined by NASCAR great Robby Gordon at Rounds 3 & 4 of the series at the LA Fairplex this Saturday (May 19)
CORONA, Calif., (May 16, 2007) – Monster Energy’s off road racers will be out in full force this weekend when the flag drops for Rounds 3 & 4 of the 2007 Championship Off Road Racing Series (CORR) at the LA Fairplex.
Fronting the Fairplex charge for Monster Energy will be Johnny Greaves and Jerry Welchel, both of whom won class races at the opening CORR rounds this past April in Lancaster (Calif.). Greaves (Monster Energy Potawatomi Toyota) won the premier Pro-4 class in an exciting contest against rival Carl Renezener, while Welchel won the Pro-2 class in his Wide-Open Baja/Monster Energy ride.
Hot on Welchel’s tail in the Pro-2 class was Monster Energy-backed Robbie Gordon (Toyo Tires/Pro Comp/Baldwin Racing). Having raced a NASCAR event (Phoenix) the night before, Gordon jetted back to California only to have his very first CORR event victory hopes dashed when he broke a front right spindle three laps into the race.
This set up a great battle between Welchel and another motorsports legend with Monster Energy ties (Monster Energy/Pflueger Racing for the SCORE Baja series), Rick Johnson. Noteworthy: Welchel went on to win the Memorial Cup race at Lancaster, giving him two overalls on the weekend.
Also keep an eye on Monster-backed Travis Coyne, Rodrigo Ampudia and Rick Huseman. Coyne finished 4th in the Memorial Cup event at Lancaster.
Next up for the Monster Energy-backed CORR racers is Round 3 & 4 of the series this weekend - May 19-20 - at the Los Angeles County Fairplex.
