CORONA, Calif., (June 26, 2008) – Monster Energy off road racer Keith Steele was victorious this past weekend at the World Series of Off Road Racing (WSORR), going 1-1 on Saturday and Sunday in the Super Truck division and wrestling the WSORR Super Truck points lead away from Dan Baudoux at the Forest County Potawatomi Brush Run at Crandon (Wis.) International Off-Road Raceway.
Steele, a two-time WSORR Stock Truck class champion running the #229 Monster Energy Goodyear Tires Chevrolet Silverado in the Super Truck class, was able to get by two trucks early in Saturday’s contest and went on – basically unchallenged – to take the win.
Round two on Sunday was an incredible sight as Steele pulled the main event holeshot on the massive all-vehicle “land rush” start and never looked back, leading the race green-to-checkers for his second win of the year – and giving him the overall points lead over Baudoux.
“We made a slight valving adjustment to the rear suspension and it really improved the handling of the truck,” said Steele. “And I’m finally getting more comfortable with this Monster Energy Super Truck. This class is very competitive so you have bring your A game every time.”
The final event for Steele and the Monster Energy/Goodyear/Chevy was the Chairman’s Cup Heavy Metal Challenge, pitting the top PRO-4WD and PRO-2WD trucks against each other in a handicap race (4x2s get a .7 mile head start). Rain would effect the outcome of the race as the faster 4WD trucks couldn’t quite catch the 2WD trucks and Steele would have to settle for 3rd in the Super Truck division, coming in a click behind the guys he beat on Saturday and Sunday in a great race for the sizable crowd that turned out at Crandon.
“The Chairman’s Cup was a handful for everybody,” said Steele. “As a racer I just over drove the first few laps, and then couldn’t really make up the difference. Another lesson learned.”
The next race for Steele and the Monster Energy/Goodyear/Chevy WSORR team is the is Island Casino/Boss Snow Off-Road Challenge, July 12-13, in Bark River, Mich. For more information on Monster Energy’s Keith Steele, check out his website at: www.steeleoffroad.com
