OFF-ROAD ACTION BACK TO FULL THROTTLE AT GLEN HELEN RACEWAY

San Bernardino, Calif. April 10, 2009– Round 1 of the Baja Cup Challenge Series debuts this Saturday, April 11th at Glen Helen Raceway. The Baja Cup Challenge is an off-road competition designed for desert-style trucks and buggies that pits man and machine versus a 4.5 mile natural and man-made race course.

It’s not just the 6th annual Baja Cup Challenge; it’s the first round of the 4 round points Series in 2009! Traditionally held once a year in December for the past 5 years, the Baja Cup Challenge now has multiple visits to the famed Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, CA. These races have provided some of the most exciting and thrilling racing on dirt, while receiving praise from race drivers regarding the track layout. The Glen Helen Baja Cup Challenge has been host to many race classes and race drivers, from beginners to the Elite Professionals.

Off-road race competitors are on a quest to conquer “a piece of the Baja” right here in the Inland Empire. The race course has been designed by off-road racers and seasoned professionals that know the challenge at-hand. It’s simply stated, the Baja Cup Challenge!

The course varies in terrain, obstacles and characteristics that are a pure spectacle and truly unique to the landmark raceway. Numerous off-road classes of trucks and buggies will converge upon Glen Helen Raceway and lay stake to the class purse and the accolades of overcoming the “Challenge”.

Return challengers are, the Iconic, Jeremy McGrath along with Karl Scanlan that are set to represent the Desert-Lite buggies. The seasoned, storied and experienced Driver, Ron Carter, is focused and determined to win the Class 10 Desert Buggy title in true form. Carter welcomes all challengers to try to take the reigning Champion’s crown away. Guy Savedra from Henderson, Nevada will also be striving for victory in the 5-1600 Desert Buggy class. The competition, open to all desert race-class off-road trucks and buggies will also include classes for UTV’s and popular Trophy Karts. The Trophy Karts are mini-sized race vehicle created for kids to get involved in the off-road action at an early age.

Glen Helen Raceway gates open at 7am for move-in and set-up on Saturday. Trophy Kart practice and racing begins at 11am. The Kart races will be followed by the Kar Tek Off Road Pre-Run from 3pm-4pm, open to all vehicles to view the race course. UTV action is slated from 4:30pm-5:00pm. All the truck and buggy “Challengers” will thunder on the race course following the UTV race.

Several excellent spectator areas are available for absorbing the off-road racing action. The gate fees are $10 for adults, $5 for children 6-12 years old and under 6 is free.

The 2009 Glen Helen Baja Cup Challenge Series schedule is:
Round 2 – Sunday, June 28
Round 3 – Saturday, August 8
Round 4 – Saturday, December 12
