March 1, 2010 (Orange, California) It really doesn’t matter what your sport is when you discuss passion. For some it’s Everest, others it’s the world’s oceans, some it’s cave diving and for many it’s a sport of some sort or another.

However, for many Americans across our vast United States it’s all about motorsports. Motorsports has been a stronghold of the American way for over a century. Some delve into two-wheels and others bury themselves in varying forms of four-wheel racing, but if it’s got an engine and wheels, someone wants to compete.

One thing they all have in common is an inherent passion to be the best. To go the fastest and to be crowned the champion.

Monday’s big news within the off road motorsports world was that a handful of the nation’s top off road racers in both Pro 2 and Pro 4 classes were seemingly moving towards Las Vegas Motor Speedway for this weekend’s Lucas Oil Off Road Series season opener.

Information from various sources all confirmed that the likes of Huseman, Jenkins Brothers, Johnny Greaves, Kenny Kincaid and those associated with the TRAXXAS brigade of racers were all heading for the Lucas Oil race weekend. Calls direct to race teams went unanswered except for one, Amsoil’s Scott Douglas.

The early afternoon phone was short and sweet as all Scott Douglas would confirm is that he was preparing to drive his Amsoil / Khumo race hauler towards Las Vegas, Nevada. We understand how the world of motorsports works and we didn’t expect any one of these racers to give up the goods on what’s going on behind the scenes and why a significant host of the nation’s top racers were all assembling in Sin City if they weren’t going to race.

Well after the dinner table was cleared my cell phone rang and Scott Douglas was on the phone again, this time he said he wanted to talk.

Scott Douglas has been a driving force in off road racing for three decades. In fact, he’s one of the few cross over racers that has raced both closed short course and desert racing. Douglas has been victorious in the Baja 1000, the granddaddy of off road desert racing. He’s also been crowned the Borg-Warner Champion at the world famous Crandon International Raceway in Wisconsin.

So what or who persuaded Douglas to call and give us his inside scoop? We have the answer and it’s nothing other than just plain PASSION.

Scott Douglas was shifting through the gears of his 18-wheel race hauler driving through the cold and icy Wisconsin countryside well after the sun had set and told us he couldn’t miss the Lucas season opener. And all because of his passion. We swapped stories from the past ten years and when it comes right down to it, Douglas isn’t sure what’s in store for the 2010 season. He has been a supporter of the TORC Series and an integral member of the PDG which still stands, however, he admittedly told us he’s not sure what the 2010 season has in store for all involved in the short course world.

Scott commented, “I race because of my love for the sport and the passion I have to make the sport the best it can be. And honestly, I don’t know what are all the details in each series, but I know that I don’t want to miss the next big thing and until everything is in stone, I’m going to race and do what I love.”

Douglas loaded up his race hauler, race trucks and everything to go with it alone at his Wisconsin ranch and headed into the blistery cold night heading towards Madison, Wisconsin and enroute the first race of the 2010 short course season.

“I’ve got a couple days of driving ahead of me and we’ll see you this weekend,” said the Borg-Warner Champion.
