John Marking Racing rolled out the new “mini-truck,” as John referred to it, on the dirt track at Glen Helen Raceway in Devore, California Wednesday morning. The new Viejas Casino / FOX Racing Shox sponsored race truck had the chassis built by 2005 CORR Pro-4 Champion Johnny Greaves and the truck was finished not far from Glen Helen Raceway in downtown Riverside by SCORE and CORR racing veteran, Troy Johnson, owner of The Fab School.

The completion of Marking’s new truck was no less than a near miracle with all the stars aligning in order to make the deadline he had set for Wednesday, May 17, only one day before he was schedule to head towards Chula Vista for the CORR Lucas Oil Pro Series season-opener.

“Rolling a brand new truck to the dirt for the first test session is always concerning,” said longtime crew member Tom Geviss. “You wonder what’s gonna work and what’s not.”

The chassis was fabricated by Johnny Greaves less than a month ago and transported to The Fab School in Riverside, California to be completed by Troy Johnson and Joey Westhoff. Working closely with Marking and his crew members, Johnson and Westhoff, completed the majority of the fabrication of the truck before it was transported to Marking’s home shop in El Cajon. There the John Marking Racing crew worked endless nights completing the truck.

In a mere 26 days, the coordinated efforts of Troy Johnson, Joey Westhoff, Todd Tenbroek, Scotty Prill, Gary Brady, Rick Tenbroek, Tom Geviss, Joe Totten, Chris Harrold and Johnny Greaves have built the newest CORR Pro-Lite truck under the watchful eye of John Marking.

With temperatures rising to the mid-90’s by late morning the truck rolled out of the trailer immaculate, however it didn’t take long for Marking to strap in and fire up the Esslinger 4-cylinder motor. After a couple minutes of warm up Marking took to the track for the first time. You’d probably imagine he’d take it easy for at least more than five minutes, but the fierce competitor pretty much took a short jaunt around the track and away he went.

With the 4-cylinder Esslinger motor roaring loudly and the truck flying through the air in the first test session, Marking was well on his way towards this weekend’s CORR Lucas Oil Series season opener. He pulled the Pro-Lite truck into the pit and smiled saying, “Let’s go racing boys.”
