San Felipe, Baja California (March 13, 2009) A few thousand fans came to contingency on the Malecon’ of San Felipe as the sun brazed off road racing desert fans and racers during the 2009 SCORE San Felipe edition of contingency and technical inspection. The light crowd and low amount of race teams definitely put another exclamation point on the bleak economic situation that the United States is now facing. The fans that did come to Mexico for the race enjoyed the finest weather and the Rockstar Energy Drink models who treated the off road racing world to some entertainment. A slight breeze and near perfect temperatures rocked this beachside fishing village as SCORE kicked off their first of three Mexican races.
The nation’s top teams are slated for battle beginning Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
NASCAR’s Robby Gordon debuted his Monster Energy Trophy Truck along the San Felipe Malecon the biggest crowds adorned the off road racing veteran. This weekend is an off weekend in the world of NASCAR and that allowed Robby Gordon to enter this desert race, one that he’s generally missed over the past ten years. Gordon’s Chevy Trophy Truck has been tested and prepped for the massive San Felipe bumps.
The usual throngs of fans in the Mexican desert will line Zoo Road just outside of San Felipe and this afternoon the DIRTnewz crew verified that people are already camping in the area of Zoo Road.
By late tonight the fiesta along Zoo Road will be happening big as the Mexican desert prepares for the world’s top off road racers!
