LOS ANGELES—Following the third of five races in the 2010 SCORE Desert Series, 22 of SCORE’s toughest drivers remain in the hunt to earn 2010 SCORE Toyota Milestone Awards.
Leading the way are five racers in the featured SCORE Trophy-Truck division and six in Class 1-2/1600 for 1600cc VW-powered open-wheelers and along with five racers in SCORE Lite.
The five SCORE Trophy-Truck drivers who have completed every race mile so far this season are: Andy McMillin, National City, Calif. (Ford F-150), Jesse Jones, Litchfield Park, Ariz. (Ford F-150), Rob MacCachren, Las Vegas (Ford F-150), Mark McMillin, El Cajon, Calif. (Ford F-150) and Nick Vanderwey, Phoenix (Chevy Silverado).
Nearly 125 entries are expected to compete in 18 Pro and 3 Sportsman classes for cars and trucks in the upcoming 15th Annual SCORE Las Vegas Terrible’s Primm 300. Round 4 of the five-race 2010 SCORE Desert Series will be held Sept. 10-12 in Primm, Nev., 35 miles south of Las Vegas at the California border.
The computerized drawing for start positions, by class, will be held Saturday, Aug. 7, at the SCORE headquarters in Los Angeles.
Toyota is presenting these prestigious awards to the world’s toughest desert racers for the 25th consecutive year. The Toyota Milestone awards will go to those pro car and truck drivers who finish every required mile in the five-race 2010 SCORE Desert Series, the World’s Foremost Desert Racing Series.
“Toyota is proud to honor the world’s best desert racing drivers,” said Les Unger, national motorsports manager at Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. “For a quarter of a century, Toyota has had the privilege of presenting the SCORE Toyota Milestone Awards to the toughest racers on the planet.”
This year marks the first time in the history of the SCORE Toyota Milestone Awards that four members of the same family as McMillin Racing has not only two drivers in the featured SCORE Trophy-Truck in Andy McMillin and his uncle Mark and Mark’s sons Daniel, 22, and Luke, 17, have also completed every required mile this season in the unlimited Class 1 and Class 1-2/1600, respectively.
Leading the field in Primm, will be defending overall and SCORE Trophy-Truck race winner Robby Gordon, the NASCAR Cup series team owner/driver from Charlotte, N.C., who won last year’s race in his No. 1 Robby Gordon Motorsports Chevy CK1500.
More than 25 entries are expected this year in the marquee SCORE Trophy-Truck division for high-tech, 850-horsepower unlimited production trucks.
The defending unlimited Class 1 race winners who will be back to defend their Primm win are Germany’s Armin Schwarz and Denmark’s Martin Christensen, who lives in Escondido, Calif., in their BMW-powered Jimco open-wheel desert race car.
