Baja 1000 Champions - Hengeveld & Childress to Race BITD Parker 425 in Jesse Jones “Spare” Trophy Truck

Steve Hengeveld

Honda’s Baja 1000 Champions – Steve Hengeveld and Mike Childress are set to race the Jesse Jones Motorsports “spare” Trophy Truck in the upcoming BITD Parker 425. Jones Motorsports offered his “spare” Trophy Truck to the reigning Baja 1000 motorcycle champions early last week as rumors flew throughout the off road racing community.

Hengeveld told DirtNewz.com exclusively, “We’re ecstatic to have this opportunity to race the Jones Motorsports Trophy Truck. Mike and I have worked well together and this will allow us to take it to the next level. We’re testing next week and then we’ll qualify the truck on Thursday and get ready for Saturday’s race. Thanks to Jones Motorsports and Toyo Tires for making this happen, it’s really unbelievable. We are really excited to get going in Jesse’s truck.”

These two-wheel kings of the open desert have recorded an impressive record in 2005 where Childress won the SCORE Baja 500 teaming up with Mouse McCoy to beat the Honda “A” Team of Hengeveld and Campbell. However, at the SCORE Baja 1000, Childress was recruited to the “A” team joining Campbell and Hengeveld for a storybook finish as Honda’s top Red Riders were victorious once again. Hengeveld is well known for his championship winning riding style and this year’s win at the Tecate SCORE Desert Series Championship was his fifth SCORE Desert Series Championship in a row. Hengeveld has won the SCORE Baja 1000 five times overall and both he and Campbell teamed up this year to lead Honda to their ninth straight overall motorcycle victory at the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000. Hengeveld also has won the SCORE Baja 500 overall five times in his career.

DirtNewz.com caught up with Jesse Jones and he said, “Steve and Mike are great off road champions and providing them this opportunity to race side-by-side with off road racing’s best racers in a Trophy Truck is pretty cool for the Jones Motorsports racing program. This is just the beginning of our 2006 season so you’ll have to wait and see what we have in store as the season progresses.”

Jesse Jones captured BITD Trick Truck Champion honors in 2005 racing his Geiser-built Fabtech Trophy Truck on Toyo Tires Open Country M/T tires. The BITD Series Trick Truck Championship win is a first for Jesse Jones, as well as the first Trick Truck Championship for Toyo Tires. Jones will be at the BITD Parker 425 with his freshly prepped Trophy Truck bearing the #1 number plate from last season’s big win.

Stay tuned as we bring you the latest from the world of dirt.
