Robby Gordon Motorsports Signs Top Young Gun – Andy McMillin

Robby Gordon Motorsports recently announced that Andy McMillin will join the prestigious off road team for the 2006 SCORE Desert Series. Desert racing’s young gun, Andy McMillin, will join the NASCAR Nextel Cup Team Owner – Robby Gordon, for the season piloting the Red Bull #83 Trophy Truck beginning in January at the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge. Gordon, the 2005 Baja 500 winner and past multi-Baja 1000 champion, is scheduled to join McMillin for the June 2006 Baja 500 and the SCORE Tecate Baja 1000.

Blasting his way throughout the Southern California off road racing ranks like Robby Gordon did years ago, Andy McMillin will partner with Gordon for the 2006 SCORE season. McMillin will be the driver of record in the Red Bull Trophy Truck at four of the six events and at the Baja 500 and Baja 1000, Gordon and McMillin will team to hopefully put the Red Bull sponsored Trophy Truck on the podium.

Adding to the potential success of two widely known off road racing families will be a combined effort in the pits. McMillin Racing and Team Gordon will join race support resources for the upcoming SCORE race season. Combining two of the best crews in off road racing will no doubt provide the best race support in the business to the #83 Trophy Truck.

About Andy McMillin:

Born May 11th 1987 in San Diego, this third generation desert racing prodigy, and grandson of the late off-road legend Corky McMillin, was quite literally born to race. Andy began riding in off-road vehicles when his mother was still pregnant with him. At just two years old Andy began riding along with his father, pre-running off-road races from his modified car seat. By age four Andy could barely contain his excitement prior to pre-run events and would stay up all night waiting to climb into the passenger seat of his father’s truck. Andy soon began driving dune buggies, and by his tenth birthday was allowed to pilot “Macadu”, his grandfather Corky’s famed Class 1 car. From Pre-running, to testing, to competing in races, Andy was thoroughly hooked on off-road.

Mentored by his father Scott McMillin and his grandfather Corky, Andy was taught the secrets of off-road racing from a young age. “In off-road racing there is no school you can go to, so you usually learn by doing everything wrong first. I was fortunate to have a father and grandfather who were patient, and taught me the art of off-road racing the right way - from the very beginning. They both spent countless days pre-running and teaching me the do’s and don’ts and I feel really lucky because of that,” said Andy.

You would be hard pressed to find a more dedicated off-road athlete than Andy McMillin. When he is not racing, Andy is testing; pre-running courses, or is in the shop overseeing the maintenance and prep of his vehicles. He has a knack for focusing in on important details, which was learned from his father Scott, who is known for his meticulous preparation of shocks and suspensions. Outside of off-roading Andy enjoys riding his 50cc motorcycle, shooting hoops, and playing football and racquetball. Depending on what mood he’s in, Andy’s musical interests range from Eminem to System of a Down. “I like to listen to heavier more aggressive music before a race. It gets me pumped to go tackle the challenge,” commented Andy.

Andy currently resides in Poway, CA.  He is attending college, studying business, and preparing to one-day join the family business, The Corky McMillin Companies.

2005 Race Season: Finished 3rd overall points for Class 1

Beat all trophy trucks and motorcycles and set an new average speed record of 63.3mph!
