But it wasn't without
drama as Johnny Greaves driving the #22 Potawatomi Toyota
Tundra led the first halft of the race in his Toyota
motor in his hotrod before suffering a oil hose failure
causing Greaves to end the race. Greaves had the definite
advantage throughout the race as he easily motored away
from the field, but came up short here at Chula Vista
International Raceway.
Carl Renezeder took the
lead and never looked back as the Southern California
native took the first Pro-4 win of the season. Driving
the #17 Lucas Oil Pro-4 like he stole it this win initiates
a great start to a very long season.
Terrible Herbsts' Troy
Herbst powered up the big red #19 machine and was tough
of the start line never fading in his quest for the
top spot. Troy Herbst slammed the pedal to the floor
as he chased down the leaders throughout the race. Once
Greaves went off the course, Herbst charged hard chasing
Renezeder for a great run. Herbst led Josh Baldwin who
rallied from the back of the pack after a big tussle
at the start of the race and ended up on the podium
in third postion.

5:30 PM Pro-Lite Update
#7 Jeff Kincaid in the Potawatomi BFG Tacoma Victorious in Pro-Lite
Chad Hord takes second
driving his Nissan Frontier with Robert Naughton placing
third in his Maxxis Ford Ranger. The thunder of the
Pro-Lite trucks tamed the crowd and put them on their
feet here in Southern California as some 29 trucks converge
to battle on CORR's West Coast headquarters.
Jeff Kincaid charged
to the front after the start and led wire-to-wire as
he put his high performance Pro Lite on victory lane
once again in the world of CORR. Kincaid dominated the
class right from the start after a group of top rated
Pro Lites all had problems on the track or mechanically.
The #99 Skyjacker Ford of Kyle LeDuc suffered a blown
clutch off the start line of the featured Pro Lite event
and he was out of the race within seconds of the race
starting. Steve Federico appeared to become entangled
with a huge group of racers as they vied for position
heading into the first turn and that put him to the
back of the pack. He roared through the field, but could
not overcome his initial problems.
Mark Oberg issues fought
him from the start of the race and that left some of
CORR's top Pro Lite racers in the mid-pack and farther
back allowing some of the young guns and CORR rookies
to fight for spots in the top five.
That included the Arizona
phenom named Robert Naughton who continues to impress
CORR racers and crews as his performances are all about
the best line and top speeds. Naughton also got tangled
up early, but raged his yellow truck to the front capturing
his first ever podium finish in a CORR race.
The Viejas Casino / FOX
Racing Shox sponsored John Marking, who started in 15th
position after struggling in qualifying on Friday, ran
a strategically perfect race. Marking so-called "weathered
the storm" in the early laps and then drove hard
towards the front slicing through the field in style.
Marking put the FOX Racing Shox blue car in the top-five
after a grand performance at the track.

4:30 PM Pro-2 Update
Todd LeDuc WINS in the Skyjacker / Toyo Tires / Suspension Unlimited Truck
Todd LeDuc lasted through the fast pace battle as Scott Taylor, Kevin Probst and Todd LeDuc were door-to-door fighting for postion until Taylor had crashed on lap 14 opening the window for LeDuc to take the victory!
The Red Bull sponosored Pro-2 truck driven by Steve Barlow held on for a strong second place finish after dicing it up in the top five the entire race. In the last two laps Barlow suffered a gear issue that held him back from over taking LeDuc.
Carl Renezeder had issues right off the start line in the newly built Lucas Oil Nissan Titan and was out of the race before the half way point.

CORR Action Lights Up San Diego’s Weekend
Chula Vista, California ( May 20, 2006)
Beneath the bright morning skies here on the coast of the Pacific Ocean the CORR Dirt Nation is poised to launch the Nissan Off Road season opener. Today’s racing debuts the 2006 CORR Lucas Oil Pro-Series and what a terrific venue Jim Baldwin and his dedicated CORR staff have put together.
Enough of the pomp and circumstance of the actual event and let’s get down to race action.
Friday’s qualifying action was superb as CORR Pro-4’s , Pro-2’s and Pro-Lites all took to the field for some epic qualifying action. The buzz throughout the pits last night was roaring at about 110 mph regarding Pro-Lite phenom, Robert Naughton. Naughton purchased Kyle LeDuc’s old truck a few months ago and came into the Chula Vista International Raceway on fire the similar lap times to CORR’s top dogs. Some have asked, “Who is Robert Naughton?” Naughton is an accomplished off road desert racer who has an extensive desert racing background in the southwest and Baja California. He is the real deal.
Kyle LeDuc told DirtNewz last night, “It’s scary that Naughton is faster in my old truck than I am in my new truck shaking his head.” LeDuc smiled and said, “but remember that was only qualifying.”
LeDuc himself led qualifying most of the session until he was jolted by Federico in the PF Chang’s sponsored Pro-Lite. As you may have read in yesterday’s coverage, Naughton’s fast lap was disallowed by CORR Officials because he failed to yield for broken truck on the race course.
The pits were busy late into the night here at the raceway as Adrian Cenni replaced a motor, Barlow swapped out transmissions, Todd LeDuc installed a new motor after grenading his truck motor in the qualifier and the LeDuc bunch was up late. A host of other teams all worked feverishly into the night while some of yesterday’s fastest guys enjoyed long dinner’s after a day of racing.
Joining the Pro-4 fastest qualifier in his pits was FABTECH’s CEO/President Dave Winner and his two boys. The FABTECH Huseman pit was all smiles as Rick and his brother Danny continued to prep the newly-built FABTECH rocketship for today’s run at the gold.
Pro-4 Champ Johnny Greaves and his crew closed up shop after going through the #22 Pro-4 truck with a fine tooth comb in search of beginning the season where he left off last year as the king of Pro-4.
Practice is underway here at the raceway with the Trophy Dash between the Pro-2’s and Pro-4’s to begin at 1:15 p.m.
We will broadcast a live streaming audio play-by-play trackside that will include colorful wide open commentary from the DirtNewz crew.
