Crandon, WI (June 19, 2006)
The nation’s top teams are trekking from around the United States enroute to what some claim is the home to the off road racing’s top series, the CORR Lucas Oil Championship Series.
The first CORR pro event of the 2006 season kicks off beginning with teams moving into Crandon International Off Road Raceway preparing for the big show that kicks off officially on Saturday morning. The racing is held in Crandon, Wisconsin, where a small town hosts thousands of fans and race teams who invade the quiet country life in search championship dreams.
The Crandon International Off Road Raceway has added some three feet of clay to their track in preparation for what is expected to be incredible racing action. Also recently added to the Crandon International Off Road Raceway is a new starter’s tower that has been deemed a “super structure.” The tower is sponsored by Precision Gear and is still being constructed with a mere four days until the racing action begins.
MasterCraft Race Seats, the Official Seat of Crandon International Off Road Raceway, has also taken over the sponsorship of the Crandon International Off Road Raceway Water Truck. Look for the CORR Water Truck to be sporting huge sponsorship decals representing the MasterCraft Race Seats brand heading into the 2006 season.

Leading the Pro-4 Division is the Lucas Oil sponsored Pro-4Truck of Carl Renezeder who captured victory at the opener round of 2006 Lucas Oil Pro Series. Renezeder, a California native, who resides in Southern California took his hometown advantage to the dirt in Chula Vista, California and walked away as the big winner. Running in second place in the points chase is the 2005 rookie, Troy Herbst, who put the Terrible Herbst #19 Pro-4 on the podium capturing 2nd place in both races in Chula Vista. Baldwin Racing’s Josh Baldwin took the final podium spot on Saturday and Sunday. The Pro-4 elite-field of teams will all be battling door-to-door in search of the season’s first big Crandon race of the year.
In the ever so popular Pro-2 Division, Todd LeDuc captured victory in his flat black painted Pro-2 truck, the same truck that he is obviously searching out a marquee sponsor for. Todd LeDuc not only claimed his first victory at the opening event of the season in Chula Vista, California, but he took third in the second race of the season to take the points lead heading into the third and fourth race of the season at Crandon, Wisconsin.

DirtNewz caught up with LeDuc at the SCORE Baja 500 only a couple weeks ago and he told us he was working very hard towards a huge effort towards the first Crandon race of the season. “Wow, after the win in the first race we’re amped about the rest of the season,” commented LeDuc.
Potowamani’s Evan Evans ruled the roost in Round 2 capturing the win after suffering through an on-board fire in Round 1. Evans told us, “We never give up. My team worked through the night to get the truck repaired and here we are in the winner’s circle.”
Look for Evans to be giving LeDuc a run for the money in Rounds 3 and 4 in Crandon, Wisconsin.
You can be sure that Red Bull sponsored – Steve Barlow, who is sitting in third position after the opening weekend of racing, will be chasing both Evans and LeDuc in search of the all important points towards the season series championship.
CORR Officials announced in Chula Vista, California that 26 Pro-Lite teams were officially entered to race in Rounds 1 & 2 and in fact, 26 teams arrived to California to run for the win.
Leading where he left off last season was Jeff Kincaid who captured the victory in both opening rounds to take an early lead in the series point’s race. He was chased by familiar CORR racer, Chad Hord, who attempted to run down Kincaid on both days to no avail.
The biggest surprise of the opening weekend was both the third and fourth positions in the series points race as CORR rookies, Robert Naughton and John Marking, finished the weekend up in third and fourth, respectively. Naughton, a registered nurse working in Flagstaff, Arizona, bombed the Chula Vista track setting the fastest Pro-Lite lap time and Marking was working through new car familiarity issues and yet still finished in the top five. Both Naughton and Marking have worked hard in the month between races and you can be sure that they’ll be charging hard towards the champion, Jeff Kincaid.

Well, it should be no surprise that both Naughton and Marking are at this moment towing towards Crandon, Wisconsin for what everyone has predicted to be one wild weekend of Pro-Lite racing. Watch for Kyle LeDuc to be coming hard after suffering a blown-clutch in Sunday’s race. The buzz in West Coast circles is that all the West Coast teams are on their way to the famed track at Crandon, Wisconsin. In fact, the DirtNewz crew is currently in Denver with the FOX Racing Shox / John Marking Racing team as the world of West Coast CORR teams head East.
DirtNewz will bring you the action from Rounds 3 & 4 at the Crandon International Off Road Raceway beginning with “The Crandon Buzz,” on Friday afternoon. Stay tuned throughout the weekend as the action is set to be wild.
