SCORE Terrible's CUP III Set To Explode in Vegas
ORANGE, California (7/19/2007) —The nation's top off road desert are set to invade Las Vegas, Nevada this weekend for the SCORE Terrible's CUP III race that begins on Thursday evening in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada where desert racing's top pit crews will compete against each other for the top spot in the SCORE Pit Crew Challenge.
Facing tough competition is nothing new for the dirt warriors coming to the SCORE Terrible's Cup III at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. SCORE Trophy Truck reigning champion, B.J. Baldwin, who carries the #1 plate on his Collins Motorsports prepped race truck will take on the challenge from the hottest team in the desert, Riviera Racing led by Mark Post.
Monster's Alan Pflueger has been racing CORR throughout the first half of the season and their is no doubt that the additional closed course seat time will provide Pflueger an advantage over those that have not raced CORR. Also racing the full time CORR circuit is Ed, Tim and Troy Herbst, along with FABTECH / Toyo Tires sponsored - Jesse Jones. Long time veteran closed course racer - Marty Coyne is also on the entry list, although he's not raced all season long after suffering a back injury late last season.
Rob MacCachren is slated for duty in the Riviera Racing #3 truck and is certainly the favorite as he will trade seat time with Riviera Racing team owner, Mark Post.
Post and MacCachren have teamed up so far this season to capture wins in three of the five desert races held so far. They are expected to vie for the top spot this race as well.
Robby Gordon was originally slated to defend his 2006 Terrible's Cup Trophy Truck Title, but withdrew two weeks ago. Rumors throughout the race industry have been both that Robby will show up at the last minute and others have said that he'll be racing a NASCAR Busch Series car on Saturday evening.
They say that practice makes perfect and that principle may apply to the 2006 SCORE Baja 1000 Winner - Andy McMillin at this weekend's race. McMillin has been hard at work putting in hours and hours of seat time in his CORR Pro-2 truck at various tracks. Early last week he switched out to his SCORE Trophy Truck as McMillin Racing invaded Estero Beach in Ensenada, Baja California. McMillin flew his SCORE Trophy Truck around the track like it was on fire. After a few adjustments, the familiar blue and white race truck romped around the Estero Beach closed course like never before. McMillin is hungry for this closed course points race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and you can be sure he's strategized to give Rob Mac, Alan Pflueger and the rest of the closed course specialist a lot more than they bargained for.
Last year's race saw record crowds on both Friday and Saturday night racing events and word is that ticket sales are higher this year than ever before.
