For short-course series event at Las Vegas International Off-Road Raceway

PRIMM, Nev. (May 16, 2008) —All things considered, Menzies Motorsports’ six drivers, all from Las Vegas, had a good day Friday in earning two top qualifying spots for Saturday’s Round 3 of the 2008 Championship Off-Road Racing Series (CORR) at the Las Vegas International Off-Road Raceway in Primm, Nev.
Round 3 of 2008 CORR Series will be held Saturday and Round 4 will be held Sunday at the 9,000-seat dirt raceway located behind Terrible’s Buffalo Bills Resort and Casino that includes a one-mile purpose-built dirt race course.  Gates open at 9 a.m. and following practice sessions, racing begins at Noon. Qualifying for Sunday’s Round 4 will be held on Sunday morning.
Team leader Rob MacCachren, hoping to match his four season-opening wins in April, qualified first in Pro-2 and seventh in Pro Buggy. His fastest lap in Pro-2 in the No. 21 Rockstar Ford F-150 was 57.041 seconds (59.33 miles per hours) to lead a CORR-record 23 trucks that qualified on Friday.
In Pro Buggy, MacCachren struggled with transmission problems, running a fast lap of 1 minute, 2.281 seconds for seventh out of 34 qualifiers in his No. 921 BFG Tires Honda-powered AlumiCraft open-wheel desert race car. His time was 1.473 seconds behind top qualifier Greg George.
The Menzies Motorsports lineup also includes fellow Southern Nevada desert racers Bryce Menzies, Bruce Fraley, Larry Job, Bryan Freeman and Brock Krahenbuhl in Primm.
Menzies, at 20 the youngest driver on the team and son of team owner Steve Menzies, had to borrow teammate Bruce Fraley’s Pro Lite for qualifying after severely damaging his Ford Ranger during a Media track demo session earlier in the day.  After Fraley qualified 16th in his No. 12 MSD Ford Ranger, Menzies, who slightly injured his left knee in his dramatic rollover, qualified 17th out of the total group of 27 qualifiers.
Job qualified fourth in the Pro Buggy division in the No. 907 Mastercraft AlumiCraft-Honda in 1:02.195.
Freeman and Krahenbuhl rocked in Single Buggy qualifying Friday. Streaking by a group of 33 qualifiers, Freeman continued where he left off at the season opener in Pomona, Calif., qualifying first with a fast lap of 1:08.03 in the No. 307 Nevada Off-Road Buggy Fraley-VW. Krahenbuhl qualified third in class with a fast lap of No. 312 KMC Fraley-VW.
“Overall, it was a good, but not a great day,” said MacCachren, who also races in the SCORE Desert Series with Mark Post in the No. 1 Rockstar/Makita Ford F-150 SCORE Trophy-Truck. “Our Pro-2 is really a dream truck with everything in it that I’ve like in other race vehicles in my career. The Pro Buggy is a very good race car, it was just popping out of gear but we’ll change the transmission tonight and it should be good to go Saturday.”
Menzies Motorsports is based out of a state-of-the-art 31,000-square foot race shop in southwest Las Vegas and the new team also has a test facility with a one-mile track south of Las Vegas which is laid out nearly identically to course at the Las Vegas International Off-Road Raceway.
Kroyer Racing Engines of Las Vegas builds the Ford truck engines and the Honda Pro Buggy motors for Menzies Motorsports while Southern California’s FAT Performance builds the VW Single Buggy engines.
Menzies Motorsports, owned by prominent Las Vegas contractor Steve Menzies, is making a major impact despite being only in its second season and first year with more than two drivers.

This weekend’s races will air both on the Speed Channel and NBC TV on a delayed basis.  A two-hour show is scheduled to air at 4 p.m. (PDT) next Saturday (May 24) on Speed TV and a one and one-half hour version is set to air at 9:30 a.m. (PDT) on Sunday, June 15 on NBC.
