Rounds 7 & 8

CHULA VISTA, Calif.(July 24,2008) As he has for the first six races this season, Las Vegas’ Rob MacCachren led his hometown Menzies Motorsports’ team of six drivers in qualifying Friday for Saturday’s Round 7 of the 2008 Championship Off-Road Racing Series (CORR) at the Chula Vista International Off-Road Raceway in Chula Vista, Calif., just south of San Diego.
Round 7 of 2008 CORR Series will be held Saturday and Round 8 will be held Sunday at the 9,000-seat dirt raceway, hewn out of rock quarry that includes a one-mile purpose-built dirt race course.  Gates open at 9 a.m. and following practice sessions, racing begins at Noon. Qualifying for Sunday’s Round 8 will be held on Sunday morning.
Rounds 7 and 8 of the CORR Series will both be televised live nationally-the first live telecasts of the series.  A two-hour show from Round 7 is scheduled to air at 3 p.m. (PDT) Saturday on Speed TV and a one and one-half hour show from Round 8 is set to air at Noon (PDT) on Sunday on NBC. Both will be broadcast in high-definition
Team leader Rob MacCachren, who has seven of the 12 race wins Menzies Motorsports has so far this year, qualified first in Pro-2 and 10th in Pro Buggy. His fastest lap in Pro-2 in the No. 21 Rockstar Ford F-150 was 55.859 seconds to lead a CORR-record 26 Pro-2 trucks that qualified on Friday.
In Pro Buggy, MacCachren ran a fast lap of 1 minute, 5.253 seconds for 10th out of 31 qualifiers in his No. 921 BFG Tires Honda-powered AlumiCraft open-wheel desert race car.
The Menzies Motorsports lineup also includes fellow Southern Nevada desert racers Bryce Menzies, Bruce Fraley, Larry Job, Bryan Freeman and Brock Krahenbuhl in Chula Vista.
Menzies, at 20 the youngest driver on the team and son of team owner Steve Menzies, qualified an impressive third in Pro Lite out of a total group of 26 qualifiers in the No. 7 Fox Shox Ford Ranger with a fast time of 1:01.285.
Fraley struggled in his qualifying attempt, ending up in the 19th starting spot in the No. 12 MSD Ford Rangers with a fast lap of 1:04.815.
Job qualified ninth in the Pro Buggy division in the No. 907 Mastercraft AlumiCraft-Honda with a fast lap time of 1:05.178.
Freeman, who has won five of six races in Single Buggy so far this year, saw his six-race top qualifier streak end on Friday, earning second in 1:06.857in the No. 307 Nevada Off-Road Buggy Fraley-VW, over two seconds behind top qualifier Jeff Knupp.  The class had a total of 27 qualifiers.
Krahenbuhl, who is third in season points, had some unspecified mechanical issues and qualified 14th in Single Buggy with a fast lap of 1:09.34No. 312 KMC Fraley-VW.
“The track is very fast and technical and the truck right out of the box was really good,” said MacCachren, who has 67 career CORR race wins. “Dave Clarke and the crew did a great job on the set up and we’re hoping to put the Rockstar Pro-2 in the winner’s circle twice this weekend.”
With plans to expand the fleet of race vehicles even more in the near future, Menzies Motorsports is based out of a state-of-the-art 31,000-square foot race shop in southwest Las Vegas and the new team also has a test facility with a one-mile track southeast of Las Vegas which is laid out nearly identically to course at the Las Vegas International Off-Road Raceway in Primm, Nev.
Owned by Las Vegas contractor Steve Menzies, the team is making a major impact despite being only in its second season overall and first year with more than two drivers.
Prominent Kroyer Racing Engines of Las Vegas builds the Ford truck engines and the Honda Pro Buggy motors for Menzies Motorsports while Southern California’s FAT Performance builds the VW Single Buggy engines.
The chassis for the two Pro Buggy race cars were built by John Cooley’s AlumiCraft of Santee, Calif. while the chassis for the two Single Buggy race cars were built in Las Vegas by Menzies Motorsports’ driver Bruce Fraley.
While the AlumiCraft vehicles, somewhat similar to Class 10 cars in the desert, are new this season, the Fraley cars, somewhat similar to Class 1-2/1600 cars in the desert, were built for last season and finished 1-2 in the season class point standings with Bryce Menzies and Fraley driving.
