Chula Vista, CA (July 27, 2008)—Las Vegas’ Menzies Motorsports added another dominating performance to its scorecard Sunday as the six-driver, seven-vehicle team won two classes and had a pair of second place finishes during Sunday’s Round 8 of the 2008 Championship Off-Road Racing Series (CORR) to lead Las Vegas’ Menzies Motorsports at Chula Vista International Raceway near San Diego.
     Bryce Menzies captured his first Pro Lite victory, Bryan Freeman won again in Single Buggy and in what may well be remembered as the race that secured the season point championship, Rob MacCachren overcame a mechanical issue during his qualifying run and subsequent mid-pack starting position to finish an amazing second in Pro-2.  Brock Krahenbuhl added to the Menzies Motorsports podium booty with his second place finish to Freeman in Single Buggy.
     Round 8 of 2008 CORR Series was held before an overflow crowd at the 9,000-seat dirt raceway, that includes a .82-mile purpose-built dirt race course hewn out of a working rock quarry owned by CORR owner Jim Baldwin.  Sunday’s Pro-2 and Pro-4 races were televised live in HD on NBC TV.
      Menzies, at 20 the youngest driver on the team and son of team owner Steve Menzies, backed up his stirring second place finish in Saturday’s Round 7 with an even more impressive first career win Sunday in the 14-Lap Pro Lite feature in the No. 7 Fox Shox Ford Ranger. Menzies, who is in his first season racing a truck after winning the CORR Single Buggy point championship last season, started fourth, moved to third on the second lap and got the lead he kept to the finish on Lap 9.  Menzies, whose best Pro Lite finishes prior to this weekend in Chula Vista was a pair of 6th-places at the season-opening races in Pomona, had a victory margin of 2.906 seconds in the 26-truck field.
     “Wow, what a win this was,” said an ecstatic Menzies after the race. “That was a great race and I couldn’t have done it without the Menzies Motorsports crew.  It seemed that nearly every turn I had someone very close to me trying to get in front. Once I held off the first two charges I pushed the truck hard thru the bumps and my FOX Racing Shox sucked up all the bumps. My BFGoodrich tires were awesome and the Kroyer motor package was just perfect.  This is a huge win for our team and I’m so happy. I also want to thank my spotter--my Dad--and my dad and my mom for providing me with this racing opportunity.”
     Starting a distant 14th out of 24 starters in the 14-Lap Pro-2 main event in the No. 21 Rockstar Ford F-150, MacCachren’s crew had to less than an hour to replace the power steering unit that went out and caught fire during qualifying.
     From the green flag, MacCachren patiently picked off vehicle after vehicle, steadily moving through the field to finish on the podium for the fifth time in eight races to keep his CORR Series Pro-2 point lead.  After climbing up to sixth by the 7th lap mandatory competition yellow flag, the veteran Las Vegas driver deftly moved by three more racers in the final six laps.  MacCachren nearly caught race winner Carl Renezeder on the final lap when the race leader was slowed by a flat tire. MacCachren finish just three tenths of a second behind Renezeder.
     “That was fun and we kept our Pro-2 season point lead,” said MacCachren in the winner’s circle following his dramatic finish. “We had a power steering pump problem in qualifying but our Menzies Motorsports crew worked double-time to get the truck ready and they did a superb job. I wanted to be patient, move up some by the competition yellow and then push it a little harder the last part of the race while driving clean and it all worked out as planned.”
     Freeman, a second generation desert racer who is another rookie in short-course racing, started the 12-lap Single Buggy feature ninth out of 30 starters because of the inverted start in the No. 307 Nevada Off-Road Buggy VW-powered Fraley open-wheel desert race car. He was fourth after the first lap, third after Lap 3, second for Lap 4 and Lap 5 and took over first place on Lap 6 and led the 30-car field to the winner’s circle for the seventh time in eight races this season.  His victory margin was 7.690 seconds over teammate Brock Krahenbuhl.
     “We had no issues at all and just ran a solid race,” said Freeman. “Our BFG’s were perfect and everything just fell into place. We love San Diego and this track is great. Brock and I finished 1-2 and anytime we can put Menzies Motorsports on the podium in first and second it’s pretty cool.”
     Krahenbuhl started on the pole in the No. 312 KMC Fraley-VW because of the 10-car inverted start, was second until Freeman passed him on the third lap and took over second on the eighth lap and stayed there until the checkered. 
     For Krahenbuhl, who is also a rookie in short-course racing, it was his fifth podium finish in eight races this season.  It was also the second time this season that Freeman and Krahenbuhl have taken the top two spots for Menzies Motorsports on the podium. The first time was on June 7 at Round 5 in Pomona, Calif.
     “That was a very long race and I thought it would never end,” said Krahenbuhl, son-in-law of team owner Steve Menzies. “After the inversion I got lucky and had the pole position. I pushed the car hard but still really had to battle around a couple guys half way through the race after I fell back a few spots. I stayed out of trouble and then was able to get through some of the lead pack and well, Bryan and I took first and second, how great is that!”
     In the 31-car, 13-lap Pro Buggy main event, MacCachren finished sixth in the No. 921 BFG Tires AlumiCraft Honda while teammate Larry Job rolled the No. 907 MasterCraft AlumiCraft-Honda on the first lap and was unable to continue in the race because of the damage to the race car. Job was not injured in the incident.
     For the second straight race in Pro Buggy, MacCachren had a flat tire just before the competition yellow flag in the middle of the race. On Sunday, he was running in second when his left rear tire went flat and after the crew changed the tire, he was 23rd on the re-start and scraped his way back 17 positions to sixth. Saturday he was running first and after his crew changed the right rear tire, salvaged a 10th-place finish.
     Menzies Motorsports driver Bruce Fraley had a tough day in Pro Lite. Driving the No. 12 MSD Ford Ranger, he started 13th, moved up to 10th on Lap 2 but got caught up in some accidents, fell back to 21st, was black flagged and ended up 19th at the finish.
     With plans to expand the fleet of race vehicles even more in the near future, Menzies Motorsports is based out of a state-of-the-art 31,000-square foot race shop in southwest Las Vegas and the new team also has a test facility with a one-mile track southeast of Las Vegas which is laid out nearly identically to course at the Las Vegas International Off-Road Raceway in Primm, Nev.
     Owned by Las Vegas contractor Steve Menzies, the team is making a major impact despite being
only in its second season overall and first year with more than two drivers.
     Prominent Kroyer Racing Engines of Las Vegas builds the Ford truck engines and the Honda Pro Buggy motors for Menzies Motorsports while Southern California’s FAT Performance builds the VW Single Buggy engines.
     The chassis for the two Pro Buggy race cars were built by John Cooley’s AlumiCraft of Santee, Calif. while the chassis for the two Single Buggy race cars were built in Las Vegas by Menzies Motorsports’ driver Bruce Fraley.
     While the AlumiCraft vehicles, somewhat similar to Class 10 cars in the desert, are new this season, the Fraley cars, somewhat similar to Class 1-2/1600 cars in the desert, were built for last season and finished 1-2 in the season class point standings with Bryce Menzies and Fraley driving.
     Next up for Menzies Motorsports will be the start of the second half of the season with Rounds 9 and 10 of the 2008 CORR Series, to be held August 16-17 at the Los Angeles County Fairplex in Pomona, Calif.
