CHULA VISTA, Calif.—Rob MacCachren, Bryce Menzies, Larry Job and Bryan Freeman all earned podium finishes during Saturday’s Round 7 of the 2008 Championship Off-Road Racing Series (CORR) to lead the six-driver, seven vehicle Menzies Motorsports team competing at the Chula Vista International Raceway.
      Round 8 of 2008 CORR Series will be held Sunday at the 9,000-seat dirt raceway, that includes a .82-mile purpose-built dirt race course hewn out of a working rock quarry owned by CORR owner Jim Baldwin.  Gates open at 9 a.m. and following practice sessions and qualifying, racing begins at Noon.  Sunday’s Pro-2 and Pro-4 races will be televised live in HD for one and one-half hours on NBC TV.
     MacCachren was third in Pro-2, Menzies was second in Pro Lite, Job was third in Pro Buggy and Freeman won in Single Buggy, marking the first race with at least one Menzies Motorsports driver in the top three in all four classes the team races in on the CORR Series.
     Starting fourth in the field of 25 starters in Pro-2 in the No. 21 Rockstar Ford F-150, MacCachren was fifth after the first of 14 laps, moving up to fourth on Lap 7 and then to third on Lap 10 where he stayed until the checkered flag, finishing 1.814 seconds behind race winner Carl Renezeder.
     Starting on the pole next to teammate Larry Job in the 13-Lap Pro Buggy main event in the No. 921 BFG Tires Honda-powered AlumiCraft open-wheel desert race car, MacCachren got a right rear flat on Lap 6 and kept the lead until the competition yellow on Lap 7, went to the hot pits to have it changed and returned for the re-start in 23rd position and blasted his way back to a 10th place finish.
     “We had a good Pro-2 race and we are racing for the season championship.  In the first half of the race, Ricky Johnson pulled off the race course and at that point we realized that we had to run strong, but we had to run for the points and not make any mistakes that would result in us not finishing the race,” said MacCachren.
     Job ran second for the first four laps and finished a season-high third in Pro Buggy in the No. 907 MasterCraft AlumiCraft-Honda.  A veteran desert racer, Job is in his first full season of short-course racing.
      Menzies, at 20 the youngest driver on the team and son of team owner Steve Menzies, started sixth and earned a season-high second place in the 14-Lap Pro Lite feature in the No. 7 Fox Shox Ford Ranger. Menzies, who is in his first season racing a truck after winning the CORR Single Buggy point championship last season, moved up to third after Lap 3 and moved to second on the fourth lap and held the spot to the finish in the 28-truck field. He finished 1.085 seconds behind race winner Robert Naughton.
     “Our Menzies Motorsports Pro Lite ran phenomenal and I’m stoked to race against Rob Naughton and Marty Hart in the front three,” said Menzies after his first podium finish in Pro Lite. “I need to thank my dad and my crew who worked very, very hard to give me a great turck today and I look forward to racing in the front as well on Sunday.”
     After qualifying second on Friday, Freeman, a second generation desert racer who is another rookie in short-course racing, started the 12-lap Single Buggy feature ninth because of the inverted start, in the No. 307 Nevada Off-Road Buggy Fraley-VW. He roared to the front by the end of the first lap and led the 30-car field to win for the sixth time in seven races this season.  His victory margin was .634 seconds.

     “We had a good run in the No. 307 Menzies Motorsports single buggy, the track was great and CORR has given us a wonderful venue to race on in San Diego,” said Freeman. “I’m glad to be back on top and I look forward to tomorrow’s race.”
     Bruce Fraley and Brock Krahenbuhl are the other Menzies Motorsports drivers who were part of the field Saturday, Fraley driving the No. 12 MSD Ranger in Pro Lite and Krahenbuhl behind the wheel of the No. 312 KMC Fraley-VW.
     Fraley started 19th in his race, was caught up in a pile up on Lap 2 and tossed around like a pinball machine. He went into survival mode, stayed on the lead lap and ended up finishing 12th.
      Krahenbuhl, who has a second and three thirds so far this season, started 14th, charged his way up to third place before being spun out by another competitor, ending up two laps down and 27th on the finishing list.
     With plans to expand the fleet of race vehicles even more in the near future, Menzies Motorsports is based out of a state-of-the-art 31,000-square foot race shop in southwest Las Vegas and the new team also has a test facility with a one-mile track southeast of Las Vegas which is laid out nearly identically to course at the Las Vegas International Off-Road Raceway in Primm, Nev.
     Owned by Las Vegas contractor Steve Menzies, the team is making a major impact despite being
only in its second season overall and first year with more than two drivers.
     Prominent Kroyer Racing Engines of Las Vegas builds the Ford truck engines and the Honda Pro Buggy motors for Menzies Motorsports while Southern California’s FAT Performance builds the VW Single Buggy engines.
     The chassis for the two Pro Buggy race cars were built by John Cooley’s AlumiCraft of Santee, Calif. while the chassis for the two Single Buggy race cars were built in Las Vegas by Menzies Motorsports’ driver Bruce Fraley.
     While the AlumiCraft vehicles, somewhat similar to Class 10 cars in the desert, are new this season, the Fraley cars, somewhat similar to Class 1-2/1600 cars in the desert, were built for last season and finished 1-2 in the season class point standings with Bryce Menzies and Fraley driving.
