Rounds 11 &12

4:20PM UPDATE - Kyle Leduc got out front early in the race and held his own in front of the best Pro 4 drivers in the world. Once Carl Renezeder got around Curt Leduc he tried and tried many times to make a move on Kyle Leduc but just couldn't do it. Kyle stayed strong with his brother Todd on the radio coaching him thru every obstacle. Kyle climbed onto the top of his truck screaming in excitement to the crowd to be a top contender for his first Pro 4 season, "I know my Dad was up there and was battling with these guys. We got to do some testing back east and now we're running up front..."

"I think Johnny and I are going to have to break out the Wheaties to move up on the podium tomorrow. I don't ever like to complain, Curt was driving a great race and was doing his thing." Renezeder commented regarding trying to get around Kyle Leduc's dad, Curt Leduc.

Johnny Greaves, who finished third after Carl Renezeder and Kyle Leduc, "After everything I put myself thru and my team thru in this last month with the two crashes we really need to put it on the podium. I need to put in a few solid races and I have my monster in hand so we are ready to go."

Josh Baldwin is obviously not too happy with Travis Coyne as he pulled up next to him after the race and said some words to Coyne.

Josh Baldwin came into turn 1 hot and got hit by Travis Coyne which sent him down the embankment on the same journey as many other drivers today. Baldwin rolled hard but landed on all four wheels giving him the opportunity to make his way back to the track.

At the same time as Baldwin was rolling Cenni tried to turn the tables as he headed into turn 3 and rolled on the uphill.

Rick Huseman is trying to make his move on Carl Renezeder but Greaves moves into the third position.

4:10PM UPDATE - After 8 laps of racing Kyle Leduc holds the lead in front of 14 other Pro 4 racers. Carl Renezeder had to make his way past Kyle's dad Curt Leduc who was striving to hold onto that second spot behind his son. Kyle has one win under his belt and is looking for a second here in Chula Vista, California.

Carl Renezeder who is running second after 8 laps of racing will be hot on Kyle Leduc's bumper at the drop of the green flag.

Rick Huseman has made his way from 8th after qualifying first in yesterday's qualifier. Huseman has the fastest lap time for the first half of the race and will be ready to rage once the course goes green.

4:00PM UPDATE - The Pro 4 story today is that of Chad Hord in the Amsoil/ Khumo Tires Pro 4 of Scott Douglas. Douglas spent the night in the hospital last night due to a knee injury during yesterday's practice session. Douglas called upon Hord to fill in for the remainder of this weekends racing action and we will have to see if Hord can make his way thru the pack.

3:50PM UPDATE - With only one lap to go Jeff Kincaid in the Traxxas/ Forest County Potowatomi #4 Pro Lite slowed way down and almost lost his lead to Marty Hart. "I was just holding my pace, I knew he really didn't have anything for me in the end there," Kincaid commented after finding out that he now holds a 12 point lead over Marty Hart.

3:45PM UPDATE - Kincaid still holds the lead and Casey Currie slides down the embankment of turn 1 just as Evans did in the Pro 2 race. Currie loses his position and as he tries to move back onto the track and into the rhythm he gets tangled up with Todd Cuffaro. Cuffaro drives up and over him to get back on the ground.

The two get going again and Cuffaro has to pull into the pits.

Brian Deegan was black flagged for hitting Casey Currie and taking him out of the race.

Jeff Huseman who ran in second for the majority of the race pulled off the track having issues with only one lap to go.

3:36PM UPDATE - As the Bully Dog pace truck pulls the course to a much slower pace for the competition yellow the current running order is, Kincaid, Huseman, Hart, Currie, Deegan, Sacio, Menzies and Hord.

Deegan is running in the top 5, the best he's ever run in his CORR career so far.

Rodrigo Ampudia had to pull into the hot pits due to a flat.

3:30PM UPDATE - At the restart Kincaid takes the holeshot once again, with Huseman right behind him. Todd Cuffaro having issues and is now in the back of the pack trying to catch up to the leaders.

Robert Naughton pulls into the hot pits and into the penalty box as the Menzies Motorsports teammates of Bruce Fraley & Bryce Menzies fight for the 7th spot.

3:21PM UPDATE - At the drop of the green flag Kincaid takes the lead. Shannon Campbell came flying high off the huge jump that is sometimes refered to as 'Monster Mountain' and came down sideways. Campbell tried to save it but rolled hard down the hill, and barely missed the rocks. Shannon, who was crowned the 2008 WEROCK Grand National Champion last weekend, is out of the race. Campbell was finally feeling comfortable and was fast in today's practice. He is okay, but his day is over.

CORR calls red flag restart and racers will have one more chance to take the green in their original positions.

3:00PM UPDATE - Jerry Whelchel is no rookie to being victorious in the Pro 2 class but struggled to capture that big win this season. It was truely down to the wire as Whelchel and Renezeder were fender to fender once again here in Chula Vista. The last time CORR visited this track Whelchel fell second to Renezeder in almost a repeat of today's race although Whelchel came out on top today. "It's a great feeling, we finally got the monkey off our back...Carl Renezeder raced me clean this time. I know Carl is a clean racer and we had a great race," quoted Whelchel at the finish.

Rob MacCachren once again put on a show for his fans, after pulling into the pits to change a flat he passed the entire field to land in 5th place right in front of his Menzies Motorsports teammate Bryce Menzies. This is the second Pro 2 race for the 21 year old Menzies Motorsports driver. In his first ever Pro 2 race in Pomona, California Bryce landed in the 10th position and now here in Chula Vista has moved his way up to 6th.

Johnny Greaves started in the third row and held his position. Greaves stayed clear of the carnage and charged hard with only one thing in mind, victory. Greaves had his best finish and made it to the podium for the first time this season in his Pro 2. Greaves has been having some bad luck the past few races. Two insane crashes, one at CORR Pomona and the next only two weeks later at WSORR Crandon. Greaves has fought back and will now have less than an hour until he climbs into his MONSTER Energy/ Toyota Pro 4

2:55PM UPDATE - Chaos at the green flag restart as Evan Evans, Todd Leduc, and a few others get into each other flying down the embankment. Leduc scathes by but Evans isn't so lucky as he is stuck in 3 feet of DIRT.

Just before the restart BJ Baldwin pulls off the track and into the hot pits.

2:50PM UPDATE - As the green flag drops it's Whelchel & Adler first off the table top and going into turn 1. Alder goes high and takes the holeshot. Going into turn 5 Whelchel makes the pass.

Rob MacCachren flies sideways at the end of lap 3, hits the k-rail and spins around just in time to miss Jeremy McGrath.

On lap 5 its, Whelchel, Adler, Greaves, Johnson, Renezeder, Ampudia, McGrath, Taylor and Leduc.

Rob MacCachren has a right front flat and will have to make his way to the hot pits. Under a full course yellow Rob MacCachren pulls into the hot pits. When MacCachren spun out Ampudia hit him and caught his body hanger on MacCachren's tire causing it to go flat.

Ampudia is black flagged because he passed McGrath under yellow.

With only 7 laps to go, Rob MacCachren and Rodrigo Ampudia will have tons of work in front of them if they want to make it to the front of the pack. We saw earlier in the Pro Buggy Race as Rob MacCachren went from 23rd to 2nd, can he do it again?

Whelchel & Adler on the Pole after a Top 8 Inversion/ BJ Baldwin Brings out Back Up Truck for First Ever CORR Race

2:00PM UPDATE - Grabowski leads at half way point with Mitchell Dejond trying to gain on him. Mitchell had a great first season last year but has been struggling this year. With only three laps to go Mitchell is looking for the premier opportunity to make his pass.

MacCachren put everything he had on the line to capture a podium after having issues during yesterday's qualifier and put Menzies Motorsports on the podium once again.

1:30PM UPDATE - Larry Job took the lead early in the race but came flying high off the Monster Mountain here at 'The Quarry'. 10:45AM UPDATE - With one last practice before belting into his Menzies Motorsports Pro Buggy for Round 11 of Championship Off Road Racing, Rob MacCachren ran hard and strong during today's practice session. MacCachren suffered from a malfunctioning carburetor during yesterdays qualifier which will have him starting on the last row for today's race. Rob has his work cut out for him with 23 other racers starting in front of him but has proved himself under pressure before.

As practice continues stay tuned for continuous coverage brought to you LIVE from 'The Quarry' in Chula Vista, California.

Shannon Campbell in his Monster Energy/ Campbell Enterprises Pro Lite is coming fresh from the W.E. Rock Grand National Championships where he claimed victory for the second year in a row. Campbell was crowned the Grand National Champion and is determined to run his Pro Lite hard and fast this weekend as he qualified 5th in yesterday's Round 11 qualifier.

Rodrigo Ampudia keeps up the rythm and holds the top spot in today's Pro Lite Practice with Marty Hart less than 1/10 of a second behind Ampudia. Hart worked with John Marking late last night tuning on the suspension and this is the first time he has drivin the truck the way it is set up.

BJ Baldwin Debuts Brand New RPS Built Pro 2

Chula Vista, CA (September 12, 2008) - With Round 11 of Championship Off Road Racing only hours away teams are still wrenching on their race vehicles, fixing and fine tuning every inch to make it just right.

Scott Douglas suffered an intense crash during the first practice session which sent him to the hospital. Flying off the table at the Start/Finish he hit the lip of the table top jump which kicked him into the air, slammed the nose of his Amsoil/ Khumo Pro 4 into the ground. The truck picked up speed and went end over end, completely demolishing the truck. Douglas was sent to the hospital and due to a knee injury will not be able to race the remainder of the season. Pro Lite Champion Chad Hord will take over the driving duties for Douglas.

Hord, who will now pull double duty this weekend at 'The Quarry' in Chula Vista, California has raced in other classes before. Hord ran Douglas' back up truck during the second practice strong and will put the Pro 4 thru the paces during tomorrows race.

The way CORR is handling this injury is different than they have done in the past. At Round 9 & 10 of CORR Racing in Pomona, California Johnny Greaves and Bryce Menzies both suffered intense crashes which sent them to the hospital. The two decided to put in a backup driver, Dan VandenHuevel for Greaves and Rob MacCachren for Bryce Menzies, CORR mandated that drivers (Greaves & Menzies) must start the race in their truck and after completeing a full lap were allowed to pull into the pits to change drivers. In this instance CORR is allowing Chad Hord (Douglas' back up driver) to take the green flag in the #7 Amsoil/ Khumo Pro 4 and will only penalize him one lap. Hord will start one lap down at the drop of the green flag.

Drivers and their crews are debating on whether or not this is fair and hoping that next year CORR will mandate a rule for these types of instances. Starting only a lap down will give Hord an advantage that Greaves and others didn't have in the past as they had to do a complete driver change and came out onto the track at least two laps down.

Rodrigo Ampudia, the 24 year old from Ensenada, Mexico, set a record for his team today as he qualified first in both his Pro 2 and Pro Lite. Other than Rob MacCachren, Ampudia is the only driver in CORR history to qualify first in two Pro classes. Rodrigo Ampudia felt strong and comfortable in both his Papas N Beer / Tecate/ Monster trucks. His Father was jumping up and down saying, "This is the best birthday present I could have ever got. I couldn't ask for anything more!!" Although Ampudia may have had the fastest times on the track today he will not have the chance to start in the front row tomorrow as he chose at random an inversion of 8 in the Pro 2 Class and 4 in the Pro Lite Class.

In tomorrow's Pro 2 race, 2007 Pro 2 Champion Jerry Whelchel will start in the front row next to Greg Adler. In the Pro 4 division Tim Herbst gets the lucky draw and will also start in the front for tomorrow's race next to Steve Barlow. The two qualified 7th and 8th, over 4 seconds behind the leaders lap times. We will have to wait until the green flag drops to see if these two can hold onto the lead.

Jeff Huseman, driving the #55 Dirt Logic Pro Lite, will take the pole in the Pro Lite Class starting next to Jeff Kincaid. These two both qualified less than a second behind Ampudia and Naughton who took the two fastest Pro Lite times of the day.

Las Vegas native BJ Baldwin took the track for the first time in his CORR career today and qualified 13th of 23 racers. Baldwin has been itching all season to get in his RPS Built Pro 2. A few races ago Baldwin told DIRTnewz staffers,"I want to wait until the last few races of the season but I don't know if I will be able to hold out." Baldwin's truck has been done for a few months now and he has had the chance to get some seat time but still has a few things to learn as he heads into his first ever CORR race at 'The Quarry' in Chula Vista, California tomorrow.

Be sure to tune into DIRTnewz for continuous coverage from the track at 'The Quarry' in Chula Vista, California. The race action will also be broadcast live on SPEED Channel tomorrow from 12:00- 2:00PST.

STAY TUNED!!
