Riviera ROCKSTARS Battle Tough San Felipe 250 Desert and Take 2nd Place Overall in Fierce Trophy Truck Race
#1 SCORE Trophy Truck Eyes Back-to-Back Championship as Mark Post and Rob MacCachren work their Baja magic in San Felipe!
March 21 2008 — Riviera Racing’s incredible challenge along the soft sands of the Sea of Cortez was put to the test beginning with an extensive prerunning schedule leading up to the race. The last fifteen race seasons has seen Mark Post and Riviera Racing excel in the desert adjacent to the azure blue waters of the Cortez. This year’s race strategy was no different. The plan was to survive the difficult first 60-miles and then charge to the checkered flag.
The #1 Riviera Racing ROCKSTAR / Makita trophy truck railed through the Baja desert captivating thousands of international desert racing fans who lined the 232-mile race course. By the day’s end, a minor miscue with the right rear tire kept them from the top spot. Riviera Racing’s spectacular run through the desert once again demonstrated their championship winning ways.

The successful run was not without concern, however. In fact, Mark Post flew to his Southern California residence after a bout with a severe cold that sidelined him for two days in the seaside village. He returned to San Felipe early Thursday, merely 48 hours before the race and jumped behind the wheel of his FORD F-150 prerunner truck, demonstrating the resilience of a champion … the same character that he leads his championship team with.
This three-time overall winner of the SCORE San Felipe 250 race drove the first 109-miles of the rock-laden desert, including the first sixty miles that many racers said were simply punishing to both man and machine.

Post explained, “While prerunning the course in the days leading up to the race, we simply calculated our race strategy and dissected our respective lines. Rob drove the second half of the race and his knowledge of the second half of this particular race is incredible. I knew we were going to have to survive those first sixty miles. Once we got to Borrego, then we needed to let the truck run wild.
“This #1 Riviera Racing FORD truck worked as good as or better than ever before. We had a great run with one very minor problem, a flat-tire that put us just enough behind to let it slip away. Brian Collins was pushing the #12 truck incredibly hard and we were hoping to get by him, but he held it together to the end. It was another great race and our top finish tightens up the championship point’s race.”

Basking in near perfect weather all week long, Riviera Racing prepared the #1 SCORE Trophy Truck for the international debut of their partnership with ROCKSTAR Energy Drink and Makita Industrial Power Tools. Riviera Racing is well-established throughout all of the Baja Peninsula and this year’s San Felipe 250 race was the first opportunity to introduce the Riviera Racing Trophy Truck to an international contingent of race fans in Mexico. The familiar jet black race truck featured the prominent branding of ROCKSTAR Energy Drink and Makita Industrial Power Tools as thousands of fans took advantage of an up close and personal look during the festive contingency event.
“We’re excited to partner with both Rockstar and Makita in the SCORE Series. This season has started off very well and we are looking forward to continued success throughout the year. We’ve added some prominent branding to the race truck, changing the look slightly, but it’s the same championship winning truck as last season. The team is focused on another championship season and we’ve got a long way to go and many desert miles in front of us, but we’ll see where it all shakes out in the end,” said Rob MacCachren.
This top finish at the 22nd Annual SCORE San Felipe 250 places Riviera Racing higher into the top five of the 2008 SCORE Trophy Truck Championship point’s race as they continue their quest to repeat as SCORE Back-to-Back Trophy Truck Champions.
