Parker 425
Parker 425 • February 9, 2009 Las Vegas off road racing icons, Rob MacCachren and Steve Olliges, arrived to the surrounding desert of Parker, Arizona with the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor R race truck setting their sights on the podium of one of the nation’s toughest off road desert race, Best in the Deserts’ Parker 425.
The Ford F-150 SVT Raptor R team faced some of the most treacherous elements that Mother Nature has doled out in the season opener race in over a decade. A powerful winter storm pushed across the Mojave Desert to the California/Arizona state line in Parker, Arizona. Floodgates unleashed from the sky over a 100-mile swath of land, forcing racers to overcome even more challenges than normal.
Parker 425 • 3:00 PM Update - Desert racing is a very hard thing to understand without experiencing it first hand. There are video clips on the internet that show trucks screaming past, in-car shots of bushes whizzing by, and colorful pictures of high dollar racers in the air. What none of these demonstrate are the hours of violence that each truck experiences throughout a 425 mile race. The bruises and aches I have today are testament to the punishment handed out by such a race.

Parker 425 • February 5, 2009 – The Best in the Desert Parker 425 kicked off with a bang on Thursday afternoon as the nation's top desert racers lined up for the ever so popular BITD Qualifying. MacCachren arrived to the BITD Parker 425 to race in both Class 1500 and Class 8000.
In the mid-afternoon, the Las Vegas racer climbed behind the wheel of the CORONA Cerverza Class 1500 fitted with BFGoodrich Tires, FOX RACING SHOX and Mastercraft Race Seats. Steve Sourapus owns the Scott Prill prepped Class 1500 buggy. MacCachren railed the ultra fast car setting the fastest qualifying time among a long list of race qualifiers.

MacCachren will be the first vehicle to take the green flag as it drops for BITD's season opener. He will then hand the car off to owner Steve Sourapas and get behind the wheel of the FORD Raptor and bring it home to the finish.
LAS VEGAS, NV • February 4, 2009 - Terrible Herbst Motorsports is proud to announce an alliance that will see the Corona, California-based company, Monster Energy, team up with the organization in 2009. Owned and operated by the Herbst family, the Terrible Herbst Motorsports team is as indigenous to desert racing as the blaring sun, deep sand, cactus and teeth chattering terrain that is all so much a part of the unforgiving form of motorsport. An integral part of the Southwest American desert racing scene for over four decades, three generations of Herbst drivers have made the outfit one of the elite and most prolific teams in SCORE and Best In The Desert racing, winning numerous championships and marquee races including the Tecate 250, Baja 500, Nevada 2000 and the fabled Baja 1000.

Team CHM takes up the baton from FORD in it's quest to repeat a BITD championship in 2009'
February 3, 2009 –"We really appreciate the support from FORD and Cliff Irey (FORD Motorsports Director) especially in this uncertain time of American auto manufacture" said Team owner/driver Chet Huffman.
The words "FORD and SUCCESS" already go hand in hand for the Huffman / Whelchel match-up with multiple wins each running the powerplants in the not so distant past. Huffman ran a FORD powered Pro-Truck with success from 2000-2003.
Whelchel won a impressive CORR PRO2 Championship in 2007 running a FORD with Wide Open BAJA as well as fielding their FORD powered Nye Frank built TT.
