4:30 PM –Robby Gordon is confirmed top qualifyer in the SCORE Trophy Truck division, finishing 13 seconds in front of SCORE Trophy Truck 2008 Champion BJ Baldwin. Baldwin proved that his new General Tires were fast enough to be in the front row come tomorrrow but we will have to wait and see how long they can hold up to Gordon's Toyo's. The rubber battle will be on as Gordon told DIRTnewz that BJ is his #1 competitor. He also mentioned that he has to be a little more cautious this weekend as he broke his truck after running it too hard in last year's race.

Gordon just left the start/finish area with Clyde Stout on the hook of Gordon's Monster Energy Rhino grinning from ear to ear. Stout will never hear the end of that one.

Justin Smith takes over driving duties during qualifying for the #16 Desert Assassins Trophy Truck while Cameron Steele is at Winter XGames & Rick Geiser was injured in last nights Laughlin Leap

2:15 PM –Rusty Stevens, driving the #89 Vision X/Rusty Unlimited/ RPS Sports Trophy Truck took it easy off the first jump of qualifying, over the laughlin leap and then rolled over the burm on the last corner coming into take the checkered flag. Qualifying will be delayed a few minutes while they clear his truck out of the way.

Drivers are taking shelter in their trucks as the rain is coming down harder and harder every minute. The last of the trucks to qualify are going to have to take into consideration that the race course is getting muddier by the minute.

1:45 PM –Justin "Bean" Smith took over the driving duties of the #16 Desert Assassins Trophy Truck for today as Rick Gieser, who was slated to practice and qualify in the truck was injured during last night's SCORE Laughlin Leap. Geiser took a hard hit to the back and fortunately walked out of the hospital with no broken bones. He is just extremely sore and will not be able to get behind the wheel this weekend.

Cameron Steele will be flying in from Aspen, Colorado where he is working at the 2009 Winter XGames. Steele was trusting enough to put the truck in the hands of his protege who before today has never driven the truck on a race course. "Bean" raged around the course and qualified in 7 minutes and 6 seconds, consistent with many of the other Trophy Truck drivers.

Robby Gordon Sets the Stage for Laughlin Trophy Truck Qualifying

January 23, 2009 –Robby Gordon, in the #77 Monster Energy, Toyo Tires Chevrolet is the first to take the green flag for qualifying here in Laughlin, Nevada. Only a few pre-entered Trophy Trucks haven't shown up to take a chance at the pole position for tomorrow's race.

"Pistol Pete" Sohren will not be able to make the race as his motor is still in the shop from the Baja 1000. Pete talked to DIRTnewz reporters yesterday and said that there was some miscommunication with his motor builder in determining when the motor was needed by. Pete is still out here with his Arrive and Drive Trophy Lite trying to be supportive but anxion and disappointed that he will not have a chance at victory this weekend.

Clyde Stout has been moved to the back of the qualifying starting grid as his crew hurries to get a new transmisison put in the #13 Stout Industries Trophy Truck. Clyde told DIRTnewz, "Trigger broke the tranny but we are still going to make it to qualifying in time, don't worry."

It's no surprise that the entire Terrible Herbst Motorsports team aren't any where to be seen. Although they were entered to race this weekend there was much speculation that the Herbst brothers would not make to the race.

Stay tuned as Laughlin Trophy Truck Qualifying gets underway!!
