Chase Crew: Mark Steele aka "Big Daddy"

Mark is the father of Master of Baja creator, Cameron Steele. He has been traveling in Baja since the 50’s. Known as Big Daddy, he can be found both guiding the fresh fish through Baja and getting into his own style of debauchery at times. Mark is a two-time Baja 1000 winner, racing in the difficult Baja Bug class and has raced in Baja California over 30 times since the day he first lined up for the Baja 1000 in 1971. He has been the main chase truck driver on six peninsula runs over the last two years and brings a wealth of Baja knowledge to any trip he is a part of. “I like to call him the hound dog, because anytime we have an issue he just seems to magically appear in the chase truck and he just defies reality sometimes,” said Cameron.

Media Crew: Troy Getty aka "Vanilla Gorilla"

Troy Saxton-Getty has been flying around Baja for nearly 20 years as a Baja Bush Pilot, flying medical, rescue and fun missions all over Baja. A former AMA Superbike driver he is comfortable on two wheels and often can be found blasting around the desert southwest and Baja, including the first Baja Beach Bash in 2009 on his 650R.

Troy was first introduced to racing in Baja by Cameron Steele and the amazing support from the Desert Assassins crew, in his words, "The true Ambassadors to Baja." Troy solo'ed the 250 in '09 on an a Can-Am Renegade-X 800 4x4 ATV and came back this year in a Class One car which was purchased a week before the 2010 Baja 250 and couldn't have done it without their Crew Chief, Rip Rider, Brian Busby. Although they rolled the buggy nearly 3 times at race mile 21 and ripped a front wheel off the car, they somehow managed to get across the finish line late into the night. Troy founded the Baja Search & Rescue (BajaSAR.org) Team earlier this year with Chris Dornsife, co-driver in the 2010 Baja 250. Over the years they both have trained for and participated in extreme rescue situations and put those skills together to support riders and racers south of the border and desert southwest. The BajaSAR team has one of it's own riding the Rip, Chris Dornsife aka The Pup, who earned his DA Jacket on the Beach Bash and HELLRIDE. Troy will fly several days of air chase as well as the BajaSAR Operations Center will monitor rider progress via their SPOT tracking devices, if you have been around Baja, finding a downed rider is like finding a needle in the desert, they often support riders from all over the world coming to challenge the one of a kind mix of terrain found only in Baja California.

Chase Crew: Fast Eddie

Fast Eddie is a savvy Baja adventure traveler. For over two decades he has traveled from the United States to the tip of the Baja Peninsula on a variety of off road adventures including racing in the premier class of SCORE International, the Trophy Truck division. He is a crew member for Pistol Pete Sohren’s Trophy Truck team. Fast Eddie has worked in over 75 races along Mexico’s famed peninsula. He is a master mechanic and all time BS kingpin, as well as a natural leader who has twenty years of Baja experience beneath his belt. His intimate knowledge of Baja’s back roads define his innate ability to lead chase teams.

Chase Crew: Mike Payne aka "Nimrod"

I'm a confirmed "buggy dork" from San Clemente who thinks 2 wheels are for bicycles and circus acts. I spend a large amount of time chasing Pabalicous all over Mexico cause those 2 wheel things can only go like 60 miles before they need gas and the guys riding them need food and water..........Sheezee grow up, get a job and buy a real desert machine with at least 2 seats an LS 1 and a 25 gallon fuel cell.

Chase Crew: Stephen Bradford aka "Peebo/Deuce"

Stephen Bradford exudes the adventurer's spirit as he is hard to tie down when there is a challenge placed in front of him. Dubbed “Deuce” by his brother, he spent 9+ months exploring South America in 2009 and speaks both Spanish and Portuguese. The Rip to the Tip chase crew position is bittersweet as he would rather battle Baja on his XR650.

You can bet he will be jealous watching from the front seat of a crew cab as his buddies ride the Peninsula. Stephen and his three year older brother Mark have ridden over 10,000 miles in Baja and are consistent finishers in the Open Pro Bike Class at races like the Baja 500 and 1000.

Even so, he has never traveled below the 22 Day trail that is parallel with Bahia de Los Angeles and this will be his first exploration of the lower Peninsula. Don’t be surprised if someone parks their bike for an afternoon and Deuce takes advantage of the opportunity to jump on and twist the throttle.

Chase Crew: Brian Godfrey

Though it is unclear how Brian became such an influential person in the world of off-road racing, one thing is clear, he has single handedly reshaped our sport into what we know it to be today. He has unwilling created a religious style following of industry leaders and Mexican nationals who biblically quote his teachings onto the future generations of the sport. Some interesting facts about Brian Godfrey,

  • When he is stopped at Federales check points he searches the Federales vehicles. When he drinks the water in Mexico it actually makes him feel better.
  • He has two illegitimate children in Baja and twelve grand children.
  • He is the only person in recorded history to have ever captured a live shupacabra.
  • He speaks fluent Spanish, in English.
  • Not only does PAB call him dad, but so does Big Daddy.
  • When he walks the streets of Baja the stray dogs follow him as if he is Noah.
