BEBO CROWNED OVERALL & SCORE Trophy Truck WINNER!

San Diego, California (January 17, 2010) Andy McMillin, the SCORE Baja 1000 Champion, returned to racing action kicking off the season with a commanding victory at the 2010 SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge. Held along the banks of the famed Colorado River, the San Diego racer beat an elite field of 28 racers entered in the SCORE Trophy Truck class.

The two day combined race event was held over a brutal 6.25-mile race course that tested every aspect of man and machine. Andy McMillin averaged 49.16 miles per hour and had a total time of 2 hours, 2 minutes and 3 seconds driving his McMillin Realty Ford F-150 to the overall victory. He began Sunday’s race setting the fastest lap of the day with the 7 minute,10 second lap. Andy went on to win the first SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge race of his career.

LAUGHLIN, Nevada, January 19, 2009 – In a heart-stopping beginning to his second year in off-road racing, Joe Bacal put his Lexus LX 570 ahead of his closest class rival as they raced flat out to the first corner at the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge 2010 season opener on Saturday, only to feel the full force of competition slam into him as he headed for the apex. Rival competitor Justin Matney left a major wound in Bacal’s Lexus as he pushed his way through, but the adrenaline-fired Bacal re-passed Matney shortly after and was never headed again en route to another Stock Full-class victory this past weekend.

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Facing his first of many challenges in the 2010 off road racing season, Rockstar Energy’s Off Road Racing Champion, Rob MacCachren, charged his Alumi Craft single-seat 1600 car to an impressive victory over a stacked field of the fastest competitors in the world at the season opener of the 2010 SCORE Desert Series.

MacCachren is a seven time SCORE season class point champion and this victory marks his 44th career SCORE class victory. The Las Vegas veteran off road racer is tied with two other racers at seven wins each, the most single class wins at the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge.

The SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge has always been a hard charging all out battle of the top off road racers in the world and this year was no different. A field of 21 1-2 1600 racers began the two-day event that kicked off within a stone’s throw of downtown Laughlin, Nevada. The race course was a brutal 6.25 mile track, which featured some of the most harsh terrain Southern Nevada has to offer. Desert racers battled over eight laps each day for a combined 100-mile two-day race event.

Boyer pulls in first but only 20 seconds in front of Rob MacCachren and Justin Smith who finish right next to each other. Unofficially Rob MacCachren will take the win here at the 2010 SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge. Boyer needed to finish 35 seconds in front of Rob to take the win but Rob pushed forward to take the win in his 1600 car.

Andy McMillin started on the pole but raced back and forth for over half the race with Tavo Vildolsola in the #4 truck until Tavo broke the lower control arm bolt which sent him into the burm and thus ended his race. McMillin went on to lead the rest of the race and battled with Cameron Steel until the #16 caught on fire and took him out of the race. Stay tuned for the last race of the day as the Class 1's are staging right now!!

Harley Letner set the pace early on and battled it out with Pat Dean and Class 1 defending champion Randy Wilson. Letner may have been leading but his teammate Kory Halopoff took over the Class 1 lead by 1 second in front of Dan Martin in the COPS Class 1 car. Justin Smith will take over the driving duties in the COPS class 1 for tomorrow's final and will start side by side in the front row next to Halopoff.

LAUGHLIN, Nev.—Starting on the pole as the fast qualifier, San Diego’s third-generation desert racer Andy McMillin overcame a tight battle with Mexico’s Gus Vildosola Jr. to surge ahead of the field Saturday to take the first day Overall and SCORE Trophy-Truck after the first of two days of racing in the season-opening 16th annual SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge.

Justin "Smith" placed 3rd in today's Round 1 in his Class 1-2/1600 rushed back to the pit, changed his motor and won the SCORE Lite race by approx 46 seconds. Cody Freeman ran a clean strong race and will start side by side next to Justin Smith in tomorrow's final race for the WIN!! Racers times from today will carry over to tomorrow's race and the times combined will determine the positions racers finish in tomorrow's day 2 of this SCORE season opener.

Rob MacCachren named your 1600 winner over Corey Boyer by 4 seconds! The top three racers were extremely close as MacCachren finished with an elapsed time of 53:11, Boyer 53:15 and Smith 53:19. Correction: Danny Ebberts was behind the wheel for today's qualifying run in the #1 truck of Bob Gordon/Robby Gordon. They were towed back to the pit and didn't finish their run due to a twisted drive shaft.

Chad Ragland put on a strong showing in the #97 truck for Baldwin Motorsports with an approximate time of 7 minutes and 15 seconds. Looks like he will be a contender a top spot.

Chad Ragland behind the wheel of the #97 General Tires/ Baldwin Motorsports truck as SCORE track officials report that Clyde Stout has a flat tire during his lap. Stout will change the tire and resume his qualifying lap, that way he will start in front of the people who DNF or did not qualify.

3:34 UPDATE: Bob Gordon being towed back to the pits by SCORE. Clyde Stout finally completes his lap in about 20 minutes after having a flat tire and will start just before all of the DNF's.

Travis Coyne limped into the infield during his qualifying lap about 2-3 minutes off the pace. There is definately something wrong with the truck and we will do our best to send our staffers over to the pits to check out what's going on.

1:56 Update: Trophy truck qualifying has begun as Nick Vanderway, Jesse Ashcraft and Bobby Baldwin have taken to the track in search of capturing the top times and putting themselves in a premier spot for tomorrow's SCORE desert racing season opener. Bobby Baldwin raged into the infield to finish his qualifying lap and looks to be running strong.

Baldwin qualified the #96 Trophy Truck while Chad Ragland is filling in for son BJ Baldwin until he flys home with rally teammate Robby Gordon on Saturday after they finish the final stage of the Dakar Rally.

Jesse Jones had trouble getting used to his newly acquired Robby Gordon Chevrolet as he rolled it during the first lap of practice this morning. Jones drove it through contingency and it looked to only have some minor cosmetic damage and should be 100% good to go for qualifying today and the racing action tomorrow.

Andy McMililn in the #31 McMillin Homes Trophy Truck qualified with an unofficial time of 7:00:05. Andy, with co-driver Todd Tenbroek, roared around the course in hopes of starting on the front row for tomorrow's race. McMillin is the defending SCORE Baja 1000 champion and looking for another win here in Laughlin to kick off the 2010 desert racing season.

Gus Vildolsola Jr "Tavo" ran an approximate qualifying lap time of 7 minutes and 7 seconds, only a few seconds behind the #31 of Andy McMillin. When we get the official results from SCORE these two racers will be very close together, fighting for the top spot in tomorrow's race.

LAUGHLIN, Nev.—Adding some major drama and extra excitement to the marquee SCORE Trophy-Truck racing division for this week’s 16th Annual SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge was the announcement today that SCORE desert racing stars Robby Gordon and B.J. Baldwin will return from the international desert rally they are competing at in Argentina and Chile in time for Sunday’s final day of the two-day race in Laughlin, Nev..

For the 16th straight year, motorsports fans and racers from 11 U.S. States, Mexico, Denmark and Germany will gather in Laughlin, the Southern Nevada desert resort town along the shores of the Colorado River, for the popular SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge. The first major motorsports event of the year in the United States will be held Thursday through Sunday, launching the five-race 2010 SCORE Desert Series, the World's Foremost Desert Racing Series.

Gordon, Charlotte, N.C., last year’s overall winner in the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge and the reigning SCORE Trophy-Truck and SCORE Overall point champion, and Las Vegas’ B.J. Baldwin, who won this race both in 2006 and 2007, are finishing the Dakar Rally, will fly to Miami where a chartered plane will hopefully get them to the Bullhead City (Ariz.) airport for Sunday’s final half of the two-day race. The featured SCORE Trophy-Truck division for high-tech, 800-horsepower, unlimited production trucks has 26 entries. After the rally ends on Saturday, the pair will begin the arduous 15-plus hour journey from Argentina to Laughlin.

Robby Gordon, a NASCAR Cup Series owner/driver, has entered his father Bob Gordon in the No. 1 Team Gordon Chevy CK1500 and the elder Gordon will race on Saturday while another second-generation desert racer, Chad Ragland of Phoenix, will race on Saturday in B.J. Baldwin’s No. 97 Baldwin Motorsports Chevy Silverado.

“You certainly wouldn’t be wrong if you said B.J. and I are passionate about SCORE desert racing,” quipped Gordon, who has found time in his diverse racing career to win four SCORE season class point titles. “Saturday should be a great first half of the race, but I can assure you that we’re aren’t going through all this to get to Laughlin for just another Sunday drive. With this weekend being a holiday weekend, nobody should leave Laughlin early. It’s a new year and a new decade and I’ve got lots more to prove.”

One of the event's most popular features, the SCORE Laughlin Leap, revs up the fun and helps get the weekend off. Moved to a new day, the SCORE Laughlin Leap will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday. The SCORE Laughlin Leap will start with a fireworks display. General admission grandstand tickets, priced at $20 each, will be available at the gate.

Drivers will enjoy the spotlight at the Laughlin Events Park, competing for a $16,000 purse and the honor of beating the 2009 champions. The SCORE Laughlin Leap, a dirt ramp built into the middle of the stadium portion of the race course, challenges the most daring of drivers. This year's competitors will be attempting to break the event record in the SCORE Laughlin Leap of 161' 6" set this past January by Larry Roeseler in the Norman Motorsports Ford F-150.

For the third straight year, qualifying for starting positions for the marquee SCORE Trophy-Truck division will be held on Friday. With free admission to the grandstand seating area, SCORE Trophy-Truck qualifying will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and each truck will be timed over one solo lap of the 6.25-mile course to determine the start order in that class for Saturday’s first half of the race.

Friday's pre-race activities will also include the SCORE Manufacturer's Midway and vendors village from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. SCORE Contingency, which includes each vehicle being pushed down the lanes in front of the Colorado Belle and Edgewater Hotels, alongside Casino Drive.

With 19 classes divided into five groups, the single race is divided into multi-lap segments split over two days. Starting at 7 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, the featured SCORE Trophy-Truck division will run 8 laps over the 6.25-mile course at 1 p.m. each day followed by the unlimited Class 1 open-wheel desert race cars that will run their 8 laps at 3 p.m. each day. The combined elapsed time and number of laps completed from both days will determine the final finishing position for each vehicle. Two vehicles will leave the start line every 15 seconds.

Daily general admission tickets, good for grandstand seating, are $20 each per day for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, children 10 and under are free. Daily VIP tickets are $40 each per day for the each day, good for admission to the Laughlin Hospitality Chalet, including food, beverage and special seating.
Returning to the stadium seating area once again will be the immensely popular SCOREvision Large-screen LCD display, showing live footage from virtually the entire race course.

Tickets, priced at $5 each per person, will also be available each race day for 'SCORE Hill', which overlooks the infield, start/finish area and the main pits. The SCORE Hill will have grandstands and standing room areas along with vendors, concessions and the other public safety services available. Grandstand GA tickets also have access to SCORE Hill during the two race days.

The Laughlin Tourism Commission is also selling three-day general admission passes for $50 and three-day VIP passes for $100. With the purchase of a general admission or VIP ticket, spectators can also buy pit passes for an additional $10 per day.

The newest spectator area, opened in 2008 adjacent to Laughlin High School off of Cougar Drive, allows entry at $10 per vehicle, as space allows, to the backside of the course with a view of much of the 6.25-mile loop. Tickets for the Laughlin High spectator area will be available only on each day of racing at the entrance off of Cougar Drive.

The Laughlin Events Park, with grandstand seating, vendor's village and food court is just minutes from the destinations eight resorts and includes an infield with switchbacks, whoops, minijumps and the SCORE Laughlin Leap.
McMillin and Wilson, two of the biggest family names in the world of desert racing, have both made big plans for the new decade, starting with commitments to run high-profile, multi-vehicle teams in the 2010 SCORE Desert Series, the world’s foremost desert racing series.

Both with second and third generation drivers, McMillin Racing of San Diego and Wilson Motorsports of Long Beach, Calif., the McMillins have six entries and the Wilson’s four in the2010 SCORE season-opener. Combined, the two prominent desert racing families have two vehicles in SCORE Trophy-Truck, three in the unlimited Class 1, four in Class 1-2/1600 and one vehicle in SCORE Lite.

Besides Gordon, B.J. Baldwin, Phoenix’s Nick Vanderwey, who will be first vehicle to qualify Friday, and Las Vegas’ Rob MacCachren, who has six career class wins in the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge, among the other regulars who were also officially in SCORE Trophy-Truck (26 entries to date) are Andy McMilllin, Mark McMillin, Roger Norman, Cameron Steele, Gus Vildosola, Ed Stout, Damen Jefferies, Bobby Baldwin, Robbie Pierce, Pete Sohren, Bill McBeath, Adam Householder and Gary and Mark Weyhrich.

Among the others entered in two classes are Damen Jefferies (SCORE Trophy-Truck and Class 1), the Weyhrich brothers Gary and Mark (SCORE Trophy-Truck and Class 1), Cameron Steele (SCORE Trophy-Truck and Sportsman Truck), Rob Bruce (SCORE Trophy-Truck and Class 1), Daniel McMillin (Class 1 and Class 1-2/1600) and Justin Smith (Class 1-2/1600 and SCORE Lite).
