Laughlin Leap - Live Coverage
Laughlin, Nevada - (January 13, 2006)
The SCORE Laughlin Leap event went off big at the Laughlin Events Park on the shores of the Colorado River. Thousands of fans from the dirt nation filled the stands in anticipation of off road racing’s biggest names to fly off the Laughlin Leap in search of a whopping $16,000 purse.
The action starting with the Class 7 trucks, which Larry Roeseler dominated
With a jump off the leap of 122 feet. Roeseler definitely rage terror on the competition as no other competitor in class came even close to the veteran desert racer. Finishing second was Scott Brady who threw a jump of 115 feet.
The 1/2 1600 cars were mixed with the 5 Unlimited cars for the action and Vic Bruckmann drove his wife’s Class 5 Unlimited over the leap hitting the 106 foot mark to capture the win and the $3,000 dollar purse.
Bruckmann later told DirtNewz staffers, “What a way to start the season with a $3,000 win.” Bruckmann is a veteran SCORE desert racer and a fan favorite.
In the Class 1 / Class 10 field, no one could match the huge flying leap of the Terrible Herbst’s Truggy driven by SCORE Champion – Troy Herbst. With a leap of 147’ feet, the Truggy seemed to be unbeatable by any other car in their class and by the end of the night, indeed, Troy Herbst took home the winner’s check of $3,000. Finishing second was Las Vegas Dissemination’s Pat Dean who flew 140 feet and fell seven feet short of the Terrible Herbst crew.
With the spectators on their feet and anticipating the roar of SCORE’s Unlimited Production Trophy Truck – the field of top trophy truck teams showed off their wares in front of the thousands of spectators sitting in the stands at the Laughlin Events Park.
Nearly matching the mark of 160 feet from last year’s leap won by Mark Post/Jerry Whelchel, the #17 Lucas Oil Trophy Truck driven by Carl Renezeder put out a mark of 159 feet. Renezeder was all smiles at the finish line where he exited the truck. Renezeder races both SCORE and CORR and last year in the SCORE Season he suffered some teething problems in his new Trophy Truck, however with a tremendous win here at the Laughlin Leap, he’ll be looking to make a big statement in Saturday’s action.
Dale Dondel roared his silver Trophy Truck to a second place finish taking home $1,000 dollars for his efforts on Thursday evening.
DirtNewz.com’s Tim “Desertbull” Sanchez and Race-Dezert.com’s Klaus “Kleez” Rausch provided a live webcast commentary that was streaming on both DirtNewz.com and Race-DeZert.com and reviews have been over the top the nation’s top off road fans are excited about bringing off road desert racing to the fore front with a live webcast commentary. Later in the evening, the live webcast moved to the Ramada Express and the Monster Energy Drink/Pflueger Racing party where everyone had a blast.
