Friday: Race Day
Waking up at 5am to stage the vehicle Casey was ready to go. Starting from the 56th position today's race was going to be no easy task.
When the green flag dropped Casey started picking off vehicles, getting into the top 20 by mile marker 35. Then having fuel pick up problems slowed him down. By the half way mark Casey charged hard to get in the top 10. With pit stops that made sure the car was perfect, a great handling car in the rocks, on Sledge Hammer at mile marker 120, Casey was in the top 4.
While attempting Sledge the first time Casey slid off the line. After backing up and lining back up Nick Campbell came up and was going to stick his nose in, so Casey went for it, leaving him on his side. As the crowd went to turn Casey over, Nick decided to drive over the under side of the vehicle making it impossible for Casey to get upright and leaving him dangling in the car. After 5 minutes of hanging inside the car, Nick made it up Sledge leaving Casey's car with broken air lines to the lockers and 2 broken shocks.
Casey " I am very disappointed in how my race ended, we had a rough start with fuel pick up problems, but to find out that we were in the hunt for the overall and then be taken out of contention by a teammate is very disapointing. The car Shannon gave me works awesome in the rocks and without a single flat tire with our BFG's the race was just like we predicted, the race wouldn't even start for me till mile 100 where I started picking up time. We will definitely be back in 2011 for title contention." |

Thursday: SideXSide Race and Tech Inspection
Casey started the race in 13th place. Moving through the field in his stock motor Kawasaki Teryx, Casey made it through the technical sections quickly and had no problems in the 70 mile loop. When he came in for the finish he was the first Kawasaki Teryx and was the only vehicle that ran under 50 miles an hour top speed. Casey "Next year we will definitely be building the engine. We had a very competitive car in the whoops and rocks but on graded roads we got plain beat by motor. I am excited to be racing in the desert and there is nothing like driving my Monster Energy Kawasaki Teryx through the rocks" Casey finished a solid 4th overall.
Tech Inspection for the Monster Energy Crawler was long. After sitting in line for Hours the car was teched, and Casey was officially ready to race. Casey "Its great to talk to all the people and sponsors before the race, I am glad that we cleared tech, now its up to me to get through tomorrow." |

King of Hammers Testing
My Uncle and I showed up to Johnson Valley February 2nd to do a shake down before the event. I haven’t sat in a crawler since last years KOH and was very nervous and excited. Shannon Campbell let me borrow the single seater that I drove last year and we did some small prep and changes to make the car fit me.
Of course my Uncle John doesn’t let me get too warmed up as we went right into the rocks. I sat in the crawler for the first time on the trailer, backed it off then drove across the lake bed right into the Hammers. Going up Sledge I was feeling a little rusty as I was getting snagged and having to make multiple runs at some obstacles. By the top of sledge we made the call that we wouldn’t get out of the rocks until I was race ready. 4 hours later and basically every rock section on the mountain I felt that my groove was coming back. When we came down Jack for the final time we did a nice 10 miles desert run to see the car in the bumps, then loaded it on the trailer and drove home for the final preparation.
This year I am excited to be driving the #2 Monster Energy Rock Racer with help from Shannon Campbell, Bfgoodrich Tire, Currie Enterprises, Motive Gear, Oakley, Go Pro, Turn Key, Torco Oils, Leatt Brace, Fox Shocks, American Wire Harness, Magnaflow Exhaust, Mastercraft Seats, PWR Radiators, Simple Green, Kawasaki, and Sign Pros. |

Casey Currie: #2
Casey was born into a motor sports family. With a family that has been in business for over 50 years building high performance rear end’s for most off road and NASCAR style racing he has grown up behind the wheel. Growing up in Anaheim Hills, California he has been drawn to anything with a motor. By the age of 5 he was racing motorcycles and by the age of 16 he jumped behind the wheel of his first race truck.
In 2003 Casey won the MDR series in his JeepSpeed and won many races along the way. In 2004 Casey switched to a Pro Truck and Class 1 taking 2nd in Pro Truck in the Baja 1000 and 3rd l In the Class 1 Car in the Baja 500.
In 2005, Currie moved to SuperMoto and quickly proved himself, winning many races and ranking himself 5th Overall in the AMA Lites Class and 1st In team points in his rookie year.
A change in pace and the new owners of Championship Off Road Racing made interest in Currie making the move to CORR. Working with Kyle Leduc, Casey became good friends with Factory Nissan and Art Schmitt setting up a program to race the 2006 season under the Factory Nissan Awning. As the 2006 season went on Casey was in development of a new tire and made much progress as a new driver, finishing on the podium in his Rookie Season.
In 2007 Currie made a move to become the youngest team owner in CORR. Being 22 and owning his own team put a huge responsibility on his shoulders. And the risk was worth the reward. Finishing 2nd Overall in Points and being constantly on the podium with 7 Podiums and 11 top 4 finishes.
Currie competed in the biggest Rock Racing event of the year in 2008 and 2009 in Johnson Valley and finished 2nd overall 2 years in a row.
In 2008, Currie created his own Pro Lite and is now building prepping and manufacturing everything in house at Currie Motorsports. With all the bugs worked out of the new truck Currie finished the season off with 1 win and 4 Podium finishes.
In 2009 Currie raced a full season in TORC finishing the year 5th overall with 11 top 5 finishes and 2 wins. He also raced 4 Rounds of Racing at LOORRS and finished in on the podium 2 of the 4 races.
Even at home Currie doesn’t slow down, spending time riding his dirt bikes, jet skis, utvs, and mountain bikes. Racing and winning is Casey Curries focus and that’s his plan for now and the future. |
