Team Waggoner, of Capistrano Beach, has proven to be among the best teams in Rock Crawling History. After this past weekends Grand National event in Farmington, New Mexico, Team Waggoner is sitting pretty as 4th in the Nation.
These were some tough courses in Farmington, NM and every team was on their game. There are always going to be the ‘would have’, ‘could have’, ‘should haves’, for every event and “Even though I can say that we had an off weekend, we still finished in a proud 4th place! I am proud of our team and very happy that we finished every course. Like with any competition I do I can pick apart each misstep and say where I went wrong but overall we did really well.” comments Cody.
Capistrano Beach, CA – Team Waggoner Racing teams up with LightForce Performance Lighting for the Off-Road Expo at the Pomona Fairplex this weekend.

July 22, 2009 - The team of Brad and Roger Lovell found themselves in familiar territory at round #4 of the 2009 We-Rock Western Series in Oroville, California. After calculated moves on the course, the veteran pair of rockcrawlers quietly congratulated each other on the unthinkable – a 3rd We-Rock series championship and 6th pro rockcrawling series championship in as many years.
Team Waggoner, of Capistrano Beach, CA, earns their 23rd career first place win at the final WE ROCK West Coast Series in Oroville, CA! They also clinched their Sixth 1st Place Championship Series Title.
What a fantastic year for this team! With their new premier sponsor, Axial, Cody and Jim were more than prepared for this event. They were not going to settle for 2nd Place and were determined to clinch the event win and Series Title. Team Waggoner was tied for the series with Jesse Haines, another tough competitor in the unlimited class, but they were not out to “beat” anyone, they were out to prove to themselves they could win it all.
Capistrano Beach, CA – Team Waggoner is excited to announce that current sponsor Axial is taking on the lead sponsorship role for the remaining 2009 season.
As full scale, 1.1, rock crawling became very popular it began to spill over and spread quickly as a sport within the RC world. In April of 2008 Cody met some of the Axial team and was officially bit by the RC rock crawling bug. “The two sports go hand in hand! The RC crawler is just like the full size crawler; it flips, flexes and rolls just like the real thing.” states Cody. From then their partnership has continued to reach new heights.
The 2009 season kicked off with a thrilling event on the debutant Pima Motorsports Park Rockcrawling Circuit. The tour moved to the legendary Three Peaks Off-Highway Park in Cedar City for the second round. The third round took place in all of the glitz and glamour that is the Sands Regency Casino and the debut of Reno Rocks. Now the circuit heads for its final stop, and another debutant course, this one is in Oroville, CA. Like Tucson, Oroville, will find itself with a ton of excitement on the rocks. Unlike Tucson, the reason for the excitement differs because championships are on the line.
LAS VEGAS, NV - March 14, 2009 - Team Waggoner, of Capistrano Beach, CA, takes on an added event and earns their 22nd career first place win!
Anxious to get home and replace the starter, that cost the team their first place win the previous weekend in Reno, NV; Cody began making calls to see if the CalROCS Donner event was going to be a possibility. With only four days before the event Cody had to confirm a spotter and get the buggy running right.
The world of everything off-road is opening for those of us that own rockcrawlers. Not only can we crawl, but we can also race on rocks, in the desert, and now in hill climbs. I have heard a couple doubters ask, “Why would you want to race one of those?” The answer? Because it is a heck of a ride and our overbuilt tanks are surprisingly competitive with the dedicated hill climb cars.
Being that this was my first hill climb, I didn’t really know what to expect. We showed up Friday night and saw everything from rally cars to methanol burning open wheel monsters. I was struck by the sight of plastic wheels, aluminum chassis, and 800-hp go-kart sized racers. We stuck out like a sore thumb.
You better take a picture because this does not happen every day – Brad Lovell
Some weekends everything comes together just the way it was planned. When the team hit the road for We-Rock Round #2 in Cedar City, UT of course they all wanted to individually finish on top, but could it come together for the whole team at a single event? Torchmate Racing fought hard, took many risks, and the results were what the team hoped for: Jesse Haines 1st Place Unlimited, Brad Lovell 1st Place Pro-Modified, and Bill Kunz 2nd Place Pro-Modified. A new benchmark has been set for the team which will be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to surpass.
DAYTON, Ohio (April 27, 2009) - Shannon Campbell and Brad Styles who captured victory at last years WE Rock in Dayton, Ohio found victory once again this weekend as fans packed the venue for an action packed weekend.
Campbell dominated the Pro Modified class while Styles proved he had what it takes in the Unlimited class finishing with a 10 point lead over Matt Deas and Carl Shortridge who rounded out the top three.
MOAB, Utah - The XRRA season opener in Moab, Utah gave the spectators something new to check out, two IFS (Independent Front Suspension) rock racers. One of which was piloted by Rick Deremo of Xtreme Motorsports.
The courses were fast with boulders, big burms, sweeping corners, jumps and rain. To make it even more interesting, the teams had to make two laps per course. Rick was teamed to race against Brad Lovell, which made for some good side by side action.
