Above Them All in a Class of His Own - Shannon Campbell 2008 XRRA National Champion
Jellico, Tennessee (September 22, 2008) In a class of his own, Shannon Campbell took to the rocks of Jellico, Tennessee and dominated the finale of the 2008 XRRA National Championship with poise and class. Representing the Western Division of the National Series, Campbell pulled out all the stops enroute to romping the national competition.
Shannon Campbell has been on top of the rock pile for the past several seasons and this weekend’s XRRA finale in Jellico, Tennessee proved the man behind the wheel of the Monster Energy-sponsored rock racer is still the man to beat. Campbell faced the top 29 rock racers in the United States for the finals of the 2008 XRRA National Championship, the final race of the season for XRRA Series and a race weekend that put the East against the West.
Campbell made the long trip from Gilbert, Arizona to Jellico Tennessee in hopes of taking home the winning hardware and he didn’t disappoint anyone with his incredible performance all weekend long. Throughout the 2008 season, Campbell has competed in three different off road racing series including XRRA, W.E. Rock and the Championship Off Road Racing Series. Shannon is also the reigning champion of this year’s King of the Hammers race, which is a cross between desert racing and rock racing. Racing for a living, Campbell and his talented family and crew persist with a never-give up attitude.
On Saturday morning, Campbell climbed into the office chair of his Campbell Enterprises rock racer and prepared for what was expected to be a battle for the national championship. However, Campbell did what he knows best and charged his race car through the corners and flew high over jumps winning the championship by a whopping 14 seconds over the nearest competitor. In fact, he beat the majority of the competition by multiple minutes with the second and third place runners up 14 and 51 seconds behind him respectively.
“This season has been hectic with all the traveling involved, but racing for the season championship is what we’ve waited for all year long. Representing Monster Energy, BFGoodrich Tires, FOX Racing Shox and Southwest Ground Control to the nation is important for our team and winning the championship is rewarding. But we couldn’t do it without the continued support of our sponsors. That combined with the opportunity to win races is what it’s all about. It’s been a tough road this season, but winning the championship makes it all worth it,” said a smiling Shannon Campbell.
Campbell has long been a serious contender in any type of motor sports he races. The Campbell Enterprises shop is littered with hundreds of trophies, as well as season championship trophies from the past ten years.
Campbell has long been in a class of his own dominating many of the rockcrawling and rock race events he’s entered.
