Johnson Valley, California March 1, 2009: For the second year in a row, Rock Runner Racing’s Joachim Schwiesow finished in the Top 10 at the monumental King of the Hammers race. Schwiesow was eighth in a field of 93 competitors in his new Twisted Customs dedicated rock racer with a 487 horsepower Gen III engine, dual Ron Davis radiators, Mastercraft 3G seats, and Spidertrax Spider9 axles with True Hi-9 third members and Detroit Lockers. A steering failure in the rocks kept Schwiesow from improving on his fifth place finish from 2008, but both Schwiesow and co-driver Joel Randall were still pleased. “The competition was much more intense this year,” Schwiesow noted after the race, “and I did not have much seat time in the car. Other than the steering failure though, everything worked flawlessly. I carried a spare tire with the intention to need it, but these BFGoodrich KRTs are bulletproof.”

Schwiesow’s teammate Jason Paule was also running on BFGoodrich KRTs on forged Trailready beadlocked rims and did not experience any tire failures. Like his teammate, Paule and co-driver Mark Berger had steering issues. “This race is just brutal on components” Paule noted. The failed steering pump put the team out of the race at mile 43. Paule’s new Twisted Customs buggy features Mastercraft suspension seats and harnesses and steering Spider9 axles at each end. He will be returning to WE Rock’s Unlimited class for 2009 with the new car to defend his World Championship title.?

The third Rock Runner Racing entry was driven by Belgium’s Dieter Duytschaever. Duytschaever started deep in the pack, but his years of experience showed as he ran a clean, smooth race. Transmission woes hampered his efforts, and eventually Duytschaever timed out. He was, however, able to complete the race under his own power using the same car that Schwiesow piloted to a fifth place finish in 2008.

In addition to thousands of spectators, DirtSports, FourWheeler, Petersen’s 4Wheel & Off-Road, Xtreme 4x4 television, Pirate4x4.com, Dirtnewz.com, Race-Dezert.com, and Totally Off Road radio, provided the most complete coverage in the history of rock sports.
